Veteran’s Update – 29th May 2026

VALE – BRUCE WILSHIRE:

It is with sadness that I notify the recent passing of long-time member of “THE BUSH BOY’S” in
Bruce Wilshire. Bruce was a great and generous member who went out of his way to show his
appreciation for the work that goes into running a golf club. On behalf of the Vets, I would like to
pass on our condolences to his family and friends.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS:

No Wednesday results due to the run of wet weather, however 39 of our members did play in the
Host Day at Mt Coolum on Monday (results below).

WEDNESDAYS COMING UP.

Wednesday the 3rd of June will be a Stroke round Monthly Medal sponsored by “THE BUSH BOY’S”.

As with all Monthly Medals the Men will play off the WHITE tees and the Ladies off the RED.

Wednesday the 10th of June is a Multiply Stableford with the Men playing off the WHITE tees and
the Ladies off the RED. This is a 2-person competition where you and your partners Stableford score is multiplied on each hole.

This means if player A has 3 points and player B has 2 points (3 x 2) their score for that hole will be 6 points. If player A has 3 points and player B has 0 points (3 x 0) their score for that hole will be 0.

There will also be a competition within this competition that will reward the player with the best Single Stableford score in each grade.

Wednesday the 17th of June is a Single Stableford with all players off the RED tees.

HOST DAY RESULTS:

All of our 39 players turned up to play at Mt Coolum which is very pleasing. Unfortunately, we ran
2nd in the Coo-Coo shield but we did have several players producing some good scores.

John Cranley 37, Paul O’Hare 36, Gary Menyweather 35, Tony Atkins 35, Peter Brown 35, Peter
Piggott 35, Greg Goulding 35, were the best of these.

After 6 games the Top Five in the HOST DAY TROPHY are Greg Michael 197, Tony Watson 193,
John Cranley 175, Tina Thomas 171, and an impressive 168 from Terry Lyons who has only
played in 5 of the 6 games.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
