VETS – Week ending 13th June 2015

CAPTAIN’s CORNER by Grant Smallacombe

This week’s Stableford competition sponsors were Dave Lyons and Len Highland, we thank them for their support.  It was nice to see Dave and Len stay for the presentation.  A lot of great scores were recorded, and you required 39 points to feature in the run down.

It is interesting that on a day like this when so many good scores are returned that our DSR (Daily Scratch Rating) was 65.   So in simple terms our Par is 70, our scratch rating off the white tees is 67, but because of all of the good scores on this particular day, our DSR was 65.  Using myself for an example.  I finished 15 over the card, but as the DSR was 65 it shows that I actually played to a 20 handicap.

Our last 3 games have seen our DSR move from 67, 66, and 65.

How does the DSR (Daily Scratch Rating) system work?  Under the DSR system, GOLF Link will assess a current course rating for you each day. This rating will be appropriate to the conditions you actually experienced.  GOLF Link will do all of the work and provide the DSR immediately after the scores are processed.

The work doesn’t cease because you can’t play, so it was great to see our Treasurer/Secretary, Rod Booth, back out on the course after his recent operation.

New Vets member Ray Nolan played his 1st game with us, we welcome you, and hope your time with us is enjoyable.

WOMENs TUESDAY CLUB – ONCOLOGY FUNDRAISING DAY

By all accounts the Women’s Tuesday Clubs’ fundraiser was a great day with a fun time had by all.  The raffles were won by Anita Highland, a beautiful painting by Gabi Dick.  A golf bag cover was donated by Bob Watson, who also did a fantastic job with photos…thank you Bob.  A party box was won by Jim Henderson…..another hard working vet.

Cushions donated by Karen Hall were won by Colleen Sykes and a stunning hand crafted bowl from Sandy Viney was won by Juanita Langford.

Thanks to all those Vets who contributed on the day and to the success of this fundraiser by buying raffle tickets.

Vets Don Clelland (top photo) and Jim Henderson (lower photo) certainly enjoyed the day walking away with raffle prizes.

The day raised a whopping $907 …best ever.. and when the cheque was presented to the CEO of Noosa Hospital she was so impressed that she matched it and now the Oncology Unit has a new Ultrasound Vein Finder.
