NEWSLETTER week ending 28th September 2013 (Vets)

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Working Bee: Monday the 30th of September, 7.30am at the Green Keepers Shed.  Come along and see from close quarters how the greens are cored.  Your assistance is required in removal of the coring, and spreading them over the course.  Bring along a plastic rake and a shovel if you have one.

We had another good attendance with 77 playing in our Canadian 2 Stroke on Wednesday. With my playing partner Terry Lyons being a Canadian we should have had an edge over the field, unfortunately we didn’t play that well and finished mid-field.

The stand out score of 54.5 by Les Terrans and Tony Vander Linden easily won the day.  Their 79 gross was very credible from the 13 and 36 handicappers.

Nice to see Don Clelland back from a holiday in Samoa (don’t forget the photos Don), the break certainly didn’t do him any harm as he played some great shots and could be one to look out for over the next few weeks.

Also back on the scene was Don Pigdon. Don’s main concern was that he hadn’t lost his job of putting out the NTP boxes for our shotgun start events.

Ron Blount and Kevin Crundall have being doing a fine job in Don’s absence and will be happy to hand back his task.

Please note that the Vets Club Championship’s are to be played on consecutive weeks with Round 1 being on the 30th of October and Round 2 on the 6th of November. By then the greens will be back in pristine condition.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
