NEWSLETTER week ending 21st September 2013 (Vets)

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Congratulations to Terry Lyons on his win in the Singles Match Play Final Terry’s opponent Graham Laing set the scene for a friendly game by giving Terry a lift to the Club.  Graham stated that “he was no match for Terry who racked up par after par”.  The final score was 5 up with 4 to play.

Good weather conditions saw some very good scores in our Wednesday Stableford Competition, with the run down stopping at 38 points.   Peter Reilly who has just returned from knee surgery posted a very impressive 45 points to take out C-Grade on a count back from Paddy Knapp.  It was suggested that Peter be disqualified for playing with a ‘performance enhancing limb’.

Please note that the Cooroy Veterans’ Golf Club Championship’s are to be played on consecutive weeks with Round 1 being on the 30th of October and Round 2 on the 6th of November.   By then the greens will be back in pristine condition.

Also worth noting is that if raffle prizes are not collected within a month they will go into the next draw. With that in mind it would be nice to see Alex Kologaras pick up his prize before next week’s draw.

SICK PARADE

If you know of a member or former member who is not traveling well, let us know.  Remember, a little contact during these times can be better than a visit from a doctor.  We like to include a special mention in our weekly NEWSLETTER.

John Dangar has not been on the scene for awhile due to some eye surgery complications.   He is having trouble seeing out of one eye at the moment and was hopeful he may have some improvement by the end of this week.   We wish John all the best and hope to see him back on the course soon.

BIRTHDAY MILESTONES

Congratulations to Geoff Currie on reaching a major milestone this month – 80 years young.  Ask him his secret next time you see him.

RESULTS from 16th SEPTEMBER 2013 – Host Day Visit by Gympie/Tin Can Bay

Event: Single Stableford

Prize Donor: Cooroy Veterans’ Golf Club

A very good field of 94 fronted up for the visit on Monday by our northern neighbours Gympie and Tin Can Bay. Whilst the recent run of fine spring weather temporarily disappeared for the day it didn’t seem to affect the golf with some very good scores carded.

Cooroy took all the major podium positions with Ron Blount (pictured) in particular putting in a very good performance carding 46 points to take out C Grade with our President, Kevin Crundall, not far behind on 43 points.  It seems Ron is determined to hang on to his position at the top of the leader board for the Jim Penman Host Day Trophy picking up a handy 8 points for the day.    No doubt if you ask him Ron will be happy to provide a shot by shot description.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.
