Vets – NEWSLETTER week ending 1st March 2014

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

The week started off with a Host Day at Mount Coolum. As usual Mount Coolum were the perfect Host’s.   Apart from a few players most of us struggled to come to terms with the course. Well done to Andrew Dick (left), his 41 points making him Cooroys leading player and therefore winning the 1st bottle of “The Park” Cabernet Sauvignon. These special bottles of wine have been donated by smallPRINT Australia Pty Ltd, and can only be won on away Host Day’s.

78 players took part in Wednesday’s 18 Hole Stroke Event.  Bob Noble will take great pleasure in winning the Kevin Tonkin donated prize for our best golfer on the day, his gross score of 76 just beat Jim Penman’s 77 and Kerry Martin finished 3rd with 80.

The best Nett went to A – Grade Bob Noble 64, B – Grade John Cairns 65, and C – Grade Mike Miklenda 69 on a c/b.

WORKING BEE: Our next Working Bee will be on Tuesday the 4th of March, light duties only like picking up sticks. 7.30 am at the Green keeper’s shed, all welcome.

TIN CAN BAY HOST DAY: Tuesday 11th of March. The sheet is on our pin up board.  We will only take a bus if there are enough people to support it; otherwise we will car pool, either way we will get all those who wish to go up there.

9 HOLE, 3 Person Ambrose – Invitation to the Ladies: On Monday the 17th of March we are inviting the Cooroy Ladies for a game of golf.  If you are interested the sheet can be found on our notice board.

RESULTS FROM 24th February 2014 – Visit to Mt Coolum

31 Cooroy members ventured down to Mt Coolum on what looked initially like being a wet day but fortunately the rain stayed away.

Unfortunately, however, there were a number of our players who nominated but didn’t turn up and didn’t notify our Captain or Mt Coolum in advance.  Host Days involve a lot of work behind the scene by the host club to make it a great day for players both on and off the golf course.   Non attendance without notification doesn’t help with organisation of the day and doesn’t reflect well on our club if we are playing away.  In future if you nominate and then can’t attend please have the courtesy to make a quick phone call or send an email to our Captain, Grant Smallacombe, in advance.

But back to what was otherwise an enjoyable day.

After the first 6 holes Jim Penman’s playing partners were calling him Jim ‘Picket Fence’ Penman for all the 1 points on his card.  As is usual though Jim recovered and finished with 33 points.  Must have been the sympathy and encouragement from the group in front that got him back on track.

Tony Foster and Ozzie Osborne’s group got a little confused at one stage and played the wrong hole causing a bit of a delay for following groups as they got back on track.

Cooroy players scoring 30 points or more: Allen Emery, Ian McMullen, Dale Rickard, Dave Chapman, Lionel Willett, Jim Gregg, Mike Smith, Jim Penman,  Kevin Crundall, Bruce Wilshire,  Peter Piggott, Con Russell, Terry Hymas, Mike Miklenda, Dave Walder, Bob Watson, Rod Booth, Dennis Guion.

IRISH 4Ball Stableford

We have your favourite golf game coming up on the 12th March 2014 sponsored by The Leprechauns aka Jim Henderson, Dave Walder and Steve Howes.

The sponsors have requested members wear something green on the day and telling Irish jokes will be considered good form.

An Irish Joke to warm up:

Paddy took 2 stuffed dogs to Antiques Roadshow.

Ooh!
said the presenter, This is a very rare set, produced by the celebrated Johns Brothers taxidermists who operated in London at the turn of last century.

Do you have any idea what they would fetch if they were in good condition?”

Sticks?
Paddy said.
