Week ending 15th June 2013 (Vets)

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Captain - Grant Smallacombe

It was unfortunate that we had to cancel our competition on Wednesday due to the very wet conditions.

Next weeks’ competition is also a Single Stableford so we will be using the same starters’ sheet used for the cancelled competition.   The only thing that has changed is the date, so if your name was down and you can’t play on the 19th please remove your name. “The Bush Boys” will be sponsoring trophy prizes.

Congratulations to Kevin Olsen and Errol Radley on their win in the final of the 4BBB Stroke Pairs Match Play. Their winning score of 1 up against Col Easton and John Stewart indicates that it was a very close match. No doubt, when asked, Kevin will be more than happy to give us his version of the game.

For those playing at Woodford on Monday, it looks as though the weather will be kind to us and it should be a great day. Bus passengers are reminded that the bus will be leaving at 7.00am so please make sure you arrive a bit earlier so your clubs etc. can be loaded in time.

VALE – Bobby Adelberg

After a long illness Charlie Adelberg’s wife Bobby passed away on 12th June 2013.

On behalf of all Cooroy Veteran Golfers we extend our condolences to Charlie and family.

FROM THE OLD DART

Members will remember Terry Thompson, our Vice Captain last year.

Terry and his wife Sue returned to UK to live at the end of 2012 and are now settled in Torquay, a seaside town in Devon.

Being golf fanatics they joined Torquay Golf club and recently caught up with our Terry Harrison, on holidays in UK, for an enjoyable lunch at the club, a few beers and no doubt, some good golf stories.

It seems the weather – cold and wet most of the time – is restricting golf but Terry was very pleased to relate that he scored his first ever Eagle on the par 4 9th hole in the course of securing his UK handicap.  Yes you have to go through the process all over again of putting in 3 cards to gain a UK handicap – it seems they don’t trust a handicap from a former colony.

Terry keeps in touch with our activities through email and the website and sends his and Sue’s regards to all their Cooroy Golf Club friends.
