Week ending 4th May 2013 (Vets)

Captain - Grant Smallacombe

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Having missed out on his 4th win in a row, Dave Walder or Black Caviar as he is now known, stated that Black Caviar had broken down. However like the true champion he is, Dave will not be going out for a spell.

Working Bee: The next Working Bee is Tuesday, 7th May 2013. Meet at 7:30am at green keepers shed.  As usual Wayne will provide coffee and cakes afterwards.

Host Day:  We host Horton Park on Monday the 13th May 2013.  The nomination sheet is available in the club house.

SCDVG Team Challenge at Pelican Waters: I am looking for all players interested in participating; I will then be required to pick out 10 players to form a team of 8 players, and 2 reserves.  All 10 will get a game.

The event is on Thursday the 23rd of May, 8.30 am Shotgun Start, at Pelican Waters Golf Club. The cost is $35.00 per player, includes competition fee, lunch, and a shared cart.

If you are interested in playing, please put your name and details on the sheet that is located in our cabinet at the Cooroy Golf Club.

HOLE IN ONE

We have a Tendulkar and Black Caviar now we need a moniker for our Hole in One Master, John Kelly.

John, John Stewart and Col Easton were out for a hit early Saturday morning.

John Kelly had a good drive on the 10th but lost his ball. Col decided to putt out while the two Johns were looking for the lost ball beyond the green. When Col went to lift his ball from the hole he found not one, but two balls in there.

Congratulations to John Kelly on your Hole-in-One.  Pity it was not an official competition but as he has already aced Holes 4 and 7 in competition I guess he isn’t too worried.

It’s getting to be a habit. Which hole next John?

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
