Week ending 22nd June 2013 (Vets)

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Captain - Grant Smallacombe

It was nice to play some golf this week after the recent rain.

We had 33 players make the trip to Woodford and a good sized field enjoyed the sunshine on Wednesday.

The next Working Bee will be held on the 9th of July normal meeting place (The Green keepers Shed) at 7.00am.  Light duties only, followed by coffee and cake in the club at approx. 10.30am.

All cart drivers need to be reminded that the direction signs on the course need to be observed.  If there are no signs, please use common sense, stay away from wet areas, and don’t drive too close to the greens.

HANDICAP ANCHOR

As a result of a change implemented in May 2013 you may have noticed an adjustment to your Handicap Anchor.

Your Anchor handicap is the best exact handicap you have achieved during the 12-month period before your most recent round. When your NEXT round is processed through GOLF Link, the handicap that will be calculated for you will not be permitted to be more than 5 strokes above your current Anchor.  This was previously 4 strokes.

The Anchor eliminates the capacity for extreme outward movements of GA Handicaps within short spaces of time.

As a result, a sustained loss of form does not cause a player’s GA Handicap to move too far from a level which is consistent with their underlying ability.

To see your current Anchor Handicap simply sign in to Golf Link using your full Golf Link number (e.g. 41306=Cooroy Golf Club + your 5 digit unique number).  Your Anchor Handicap is displayed at the bottom of the list of your last 20 results.

NEW COMMITTEE MEMBER

We are pleased to announce Terry Lyons has joined the committee.  Terry has been putting together some pretty good golf results but has been warned that joining the committee usually means your golf goes backwards – still he is committed.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
