VETS – Week ending 20th June 2015

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Some of us were fortunate enough to get 2 games of golf in this week and somehow we managed to dodge the rain on both occasions.

On Monday 47 players took part in the April Monthly Medal that was postponed previously due to wet weather.  The stand out score came from Dale Rickard who finished with a nett 64.

Our Wednesday field of 71 was down a bit and for this we will blame the weather forecasters as our game ended up being played in perfect conditions.

Well done by The Bush Boys x 15 for sponsoring this event.  The group consists of Bruce Wilshire, Peter Reilly, Kerry Martin, Phil Mason, Jon Sendall, Paddy Knapp, Jim Prendergast, , Jim Gregg, John Quodling, Gary Sheales, Bill Galvin, John Kelly, Glen Johnstone, John McNamara, & Tom Murphy.  This is one of 3 events the “Bush Boys” sponsor for the year and their generosity covers all major prizes, NTP and run down balls.

NEW MEMBER

A big welcome to our latest new Vets member in David Jones.  David turned 55 on Wednesday and had organized his membership to be paid so he could compete on the day.  And compete he did as he now has the perfect record of 1 game for 1 win.  David took out the A-Grade and won by a count back with 40 points.

NEXT WEEK

Don’t forget next week is a 4 Man Ambrose” so you need to have a group of 4.   It is also our Prostate Cancer Fundraiser so please bring along a few extra gold coins so you can take part in some extra activities out on the course.  There will be a sausage sizzle provided at completion of play.

Entry Fee is $15.00 and it’s an 8:00am shot gun start.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
