Vets – Newsletter week ending 24th October 2015

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

A good attendance on Tuesday made for a very enjoyable morning when the ladies invited us to take part in their 9 hole, 4 person Ambrose event.  Thank you to all who took part and to those that offered their services when the call went out for more players.

Timothy Martin - with blackWe played Wednesday’s 4BBB Stableford in warm conditions.  We trust you all enjoyed the burger and drink, plus a chat with Marty (left) at “Marty’s Hut”.  Once again Jim Henderson and Ian Mulhall did a great job with the cooking.

President Kevin Crundall blew the course to pieces, as he with Rod Roemermann finished with 53 points.  Their great score won on a count back from 2nd placed Bruce Wilshire & Dennis Beckhaus.

Mal Waller from Nudgee joined Peter Buchbach for a game of golf.  I trust you enjoyed the day Mal and we hope to see you again.

Thank you Nick Kostalas for donating balls for the NTP’s and run down – they were well received by all.

Be sure to say thanks to our latest sponsor Con Russell.  Yes Con has now donated his winning lucky draw prize back to us two times in three weeks.

It proves that it pays to come into the club at completion of play and check if you have won a prize.

Next week is our November Monthly Medal, even though it is played in October.

It is also the 1st round of our Vet’s Championship.  The following week (Nov 4th) is also a stroke event and the 2nd round of our Championship. You will retain the handicap that you play off on week 1 for the 2nd round.  Good luck to all participants.

The Vet’s will be running a 4 week Stableford competition over the Xmas break this year.  All four time sheets will go out at the same time.

Wednesday the 16th, 23rd, and 30th December will be timed starts.  The competition will finish with a shotgun start and presentation on Wednesday, 6th January 2016.  The winners will be decided from their best 3 scores over the 4 rounds.  There will be substantial prizes for the best TEN players (all in), plus a weekly A,B, & C grade prize.  There will also be a NTP (all in) on a selected hole each week.

Just a quick word on rules, a card length is a card length.  If you wish to play your ball outside this margin you can do so (within the rules), but it will cost you a penalty drop.

If you are playing with someone who breaches any rules of golf it is your responsibility as their marker to impose the appropriate penalty if they don’t.

BELATED MENTION

We overlooked recording Terry Wilson’s 40 points at our recent visit to Headland to take out B Grade.  Apologies for the oversight – great effort Terry.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
