VETS – NEWSLETTER week ending 7th February 2015

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

We had a great roll up for our “John Madill Toyota” Monthly Medal on Wednesday.  The field of 87 included 3 visitors.

It was nice to see one of our newer members Peter Buchbach have a win in A-Grade with a nett 66.  Jim Henderson in B-Grade had a credible 62, and John Woodward (picture left) C-Grade fired with a 61.   Jim Henderson (23 putts) won the 9 balls for the least putts, and Peter Reilly (24 putts) won 3 balls for running 2nd.

Thanks to Bob Noble for donating the balls.

More useful or useless stats from Monday’s 3 club and putter event.

Con Russell had 26 points on the front 9, but fell away on the back when it was suggested we would erect a statue in his honor if he could repeat the effort on the way in.  For the record the moment got to Con and he managed just another 8 points.

John Kelly had a total of 40 points and won the day.

Bruce Wilshire and John Stewart both had 22 points on the back 9.   Col Easton had 22 points on the front 9.

John Stewart, Col Easton, Bruce Wilshire, and Steve Howes all birdied the 13th.   Kevin Olsen birdied the 17th, and Geoff Pembroke birdied the 1st.

The hardest hole on the course the 11th saw 4 pars, 6 bogeys, 3 double bogeys, and 10 triple bogeys scored.

Not bad for 3 clubs & a putter.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
