VETS – Newsletter week ending 3rd October 2015

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

On Monday 45 players visited the new Maroochy River course and although none of our players featured in the major prizes, we still had quite a few who played well.  Our best player on the day was Lionel Willett who finished with 41 points.

Where is - MRPhotoDon Clelland and Kevin Crundall in conversation at Maroochy River. “Is that the green out there? No I think it’s over there.  Well what’s that red flag on our right.  No I’m pretty sure it’s over there – possibly, maybe !!!” It was a bit like that on a couple of holes at Maroochy River.

Errol Radley still holds the lead in the Jim Penman Host Day Competition despite not being able to better his score at Maroochy River.

With 2 Away Host Day’s remaining there are still plenty of opportunities for many players to finish in the top 10 and therefore win a prize at the end of the year.  The updated Leader Board is on display on the Vets notice board at the club.

Our October John Madill Monthly Medal” was played on Wednesday with a total of 83 players taking part.  Medal honors went to Michael Loe, Greg Michael, and Hasse Andersson.  If you have not already won a medal this year, next month’s round on October the 28th is your last chance to secure a place in the Medal of Medals that is played on the 2nd of December.

Coming up we have a Single Stableford on Wednesday the 7th of October, we then play a host day at Headland on Monday the 12th of October, followed by a Single Stableford off the “RED TEES” on Wednesday the14th of October.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
