Vets – NEWSLETTER week ending 30th August 2014

NEW MEMBERS

Welcome to new members Bob Atkin, Russ Rylance and Les Grimsditch.

Russ didn’t delay joining after turning 55 a week ago and took out a ball in the Run Down in his first game with the Vets.

SUMMER START TIMES

A reminder we move to SUMMER START TIMES from 1st September.

Rolling Starts will be from 6:30 am rather than 7:00 am.

Shot Gun Starts will generally be 8:00 am but check the published time for the event beforehand, particularly for Host Days.

WHAT’s COMING UP

Another big month coming up!

On Monday, 1st September we host the District C & D Grade Championship – register by 8:00am for 8:30am Shot Gun start.  Thank you in advance to those members who put up their hand as volunteers to assist with making this a successful day.

Next Wednesday, 3rd September, is our September Monthly Medal and an 8:00am Shot Gun startThere aren’t too many opportunities left to qualify for the 2014 Medal of Medals set down for 3rd December 2014.

On the 8th September we have an away visit to Horton Park.  This will probably be the last opportunity to play Horton Park before they move to their new course at Bli Bli and change name to Maroochy River Golf Club.

We have a 4 Man Ambrose on 10th September so get your team organised.  This is also our Members Guest day and will include a ‘FREE’ Sausage Sizzle.

15th September sees us hosting our northern friends, Gympie and Tin Can Bay 8:30 am Shot Gun start.  We are expecting a big field.  The nomination sheet is available in the club house.

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

There were two games again this week, Monday we had a very good day hosting Headland and Tewantin/Noosa. A total of 84 players took part with the local Cooroy players taking out most of the prizes.

On Wednesday we also had over 80 players including 2 new Vets members in Russ Rylance and Les Grimsditch.  Please make them feel welcome.

A very generous gesture by member Derek Clayton.  Derek has donated his bar tab to be given to the Vets as prizes.  Thank you for your kind donation Derek.

Good to see Errol Radley back in action after a recent shoulder reconstruction and also seen at the Club briefly was the ever popular Marty who has been in hospital for quite some time.

This Monday the 1st of Sept. we play the C&D Grade District Championships at Cooroy, (8.30am shotgun start).   If you have your name down please don’t forget to turn up for what should be a great day.

Likewise those players who have nominated for A&B Grade, your game is on Friday the 5th September at Horton Park and is also a 8.30 shotgun start.   Best of luck.

VETS ON THE ROAD

Andrew Dick’s round Australia odyssey continues – he and Gabby are slowly heading towards home!  They are in Kalgoorlie where Andrew had a game of golf and caught up with Kirsty Herring.

Kirsty is enjoying working at the Kalgoorlie Golf Course but finds it a bit cold although it’s now warming up.

Pictured (click to enlarge) – (1) Andrew with Kirsty (2) Andrew hitting off on the par 3, 17th which Kirsty says is the best hole on the course. Note the rich red soil and beautiful clear blue sky.

SUPPORTING OUR SPONSORS

It’s not generally well known that Don Clelland is an avid “pickler”.

Don called in to see our NTP sponsor, Cooroy Harvest Fresh in Cooroy and picked up 20kgs of pickling onions at a very good price.

If you want to know anything about pickling see Don – you might even get a chance to sample some of his handiwork.

If you drop in to Cooroy Harvest Fresh see Joe Bartolo (pictured left) and tell him you are from Cooroy Vets.

Cooroy Harvest Fresh sponsor our NTP on the 10th and was won by Paddy Knapp on Wednesday.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

    Liam Henderson

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
