VETS – Newsletter week ending 28th November 2015

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Nash RobWednesday’s competition was the last of our Stableford games for the year. It was also the last chance to better your score in this year’s Stableford Player of the Year Competition. This competition will become one of our yearly trophy events, and is based on your best 10 Stableford scores for the year. Our winner this year is Rob Nash (left) who finished with 387 points to just nudge out Peter Buchbach and John Stewart, who both finished on 384 points. For his efforts Rob wins prizes to the value of $100 and will receive them at this year’s Xmas lunch and presentation on Wednesday, 9th December.

You may have noticed that the new Rules of Golf books are out.  I suggest that all of our members should pick up a copy and read it.  The main topics that come up are score card entries, plus red and yellow stakes and your options. The books are free so pick up your copy next week.

Next Wednesday is our John Madill Monthly Medal.  It is also our Medal of Medals.  Good luck to all of the qualifiers.

It will be an 8.00am shotgun start and we will have another 4 x ½ hams on offer in our “Lucky Prize” draw at the completion of play.

The lunch will be catered for by 246ate Catering who did such a good job last year.

SUNSHINE COAST DISTRICT VETERAN GOLFERS ASSOCIATION

The District held its final 2015 quarterly management meeting and 2015 AGM on Thursday, 26th November.  Grant, Jimmy and Rod attended representing Cooroy Vets.

With 11 affiliated clubs and in excess of 2,000 registered members we are part of the largest Veteran Golfer District in Queensland and Australia.  Financially the District is in a sound position with $6,600 in the bank.

Executive management of the District rotates alphabetically between member clubs every 2 years.  As 2015 completes their 2 year term Maroochy River handed the executive management baton to Nambour at the AGM.

All 11 clubs reported a successful 2015 with strong membership numbers and a positive outlook for 2016.

The 2016 District Host Day Program is essentially agreed.  You may be aware Noosa (25), Caloundra (35) and Maroochy River (45) are forced to limit visitor numbers on Host Days because of restrictions placed on them by their home club.  To address the restrictions they find it necessary to combine host day visits by some District Vets clubs thus limiting the number each club can nominate.  We are pleased to advise we have been given sole visitor status by each of these clubs demonstrating our standing in providing good attendance numbers for away events and allowing us to use the full visitor limit.   We look forward to your continued support for host days visits in 2016.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
