Vets – NEWSLETTER week ending 27th September 2014

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

First of all welcome to our latest new Vet member in George Hall.  Most of you probably know George from the Saturday Competition and if not, introduce yourself and make him feel welcome.

Next Wednesday is our Monthly Medal event, it is an 8.00am shotgun start and we will be putting on a free sausage sizzle at the completion of play.  Our volunteer BBQ chefs for next week are Terry Lyons, Steve Howes and myself.  We plan to have at least 1 sausage sizzle every month, so if any members would like to offer their services in future (which means scarifying your game) please contact me.

Great effort by all the Vets who turned up to assist with the coring of the greens on Monday.  It was hard going with the putter today but the greens should be in pristine condition for the Vets Championship’s  that will be held on the 29th of October and the 5th of November.

A couple of other events coming soon, are the Host Day at Headland on Monday the 13th of October, and the invitation from the Ladies 9 hole, 3 person Ambrose on Tuesday the 21st of October. You will find the nomination sheets for both of these events on the Vet’s notice board.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
