VETS: Newsletter week ending 27th February 2016

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Mount Coolum provided a course in magnificent condition for our game there on Monday.  Our players were more successful in the raffle than out on the course, although there were still quite a few high scores recorded.  The best of these was from your Captain who scored 41 points.  Other notable scores were Jason Egan, Kevin Olsen, Greg Michael, Derek Clayton, Bob Atkin, Con Russell, and Mike Miklenda who all finished with 39 points.

leprechaunhatWednesday’s Stableford competition drew a field of 101 starters that included 8 of our regular visitors from Nudgee. We may have broken through the 100 barrier a little earlier than anticipated but it hasn’t stopped us from enticing you to do so again on the 16th March for our St Patrick’s Day Competition.

Some of you may have already purchased a ticket in our “Maryborough Bus Trip Fundraiser”.  Don Clelland is selling the tickets and will be doing so over the next few weeks.  There are 100 tickets at $5 each, and 100 prizes on offer, so everyone is guaranteed of winning something. The draw will take place on the 16th March which is the same day as our St Patrick’s Day Competition.  It is also our next shotgun start and will also include a free sausage sizzle at completion of play.  Start looking now for something “GREEN” to wear.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
