Vets – NEWSLETTER week ending 25th January 2014

Appreciation

Thank you to members remembering to bring a $2.00 coin when paying competition fees – it makes the starters job easier and alleviates hassles with change.

Captains Corner

Wednesday’s competition saw a field of 77 players take on the heat.  As I didn’t play myself, it was very interesting day for me to watch the players come in with their scores.

Early activity had Chris Simpson (left) ending his game after shanking a shot off the 5th tee, his ball ending up in the dry creek on the 4th.  Attempting to retrieve his ball Chris took a tumble and injured himself.  He received no sympathy from his playing partners who gathered around for a few minutes discussing who would give him mouth to mouth if required.  He was then asked “how is your day going so far” followed up by an offer of 10 quid for his clubs, “as they would be of no further use to him”.  During his short game Chris did however take out the NTP “Captain’s Choice” on the 1st hole.

Our 1st group handed their cards in at 9.40am making it a 3 hour 10 minute round.  Nick Kostalas escaping most of the heat came in with an impressive 44 points.

We had John Quodling sustaining an injury that stopped him from playing, after scoring a very handy 20 points on the front 9.

As the morning wore on it became very evident just how hot it was out there, the players and the scores were suffering.

Ray Lally came in towards the end of the field and showed that the heat had no ill effect on his concentration. Ray came in with 44 points to take out the A-Grade.

Working Bee

Our next working Bee will be on February 17th assisting with the coring of the greens.  It is hoped that some of the corings will be used on the left hand side of the 9th green.   You will have noticed the new cart path to the right of the 9th green, funded by The Vets, is now complete and in use.

SEE YOU THERE.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.
