Vets – NEWSLETTER week ending 19th April 2014

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Unfortunately Monday’s Host Day visit by Caloundra was cancelled due to the wet weather. We have now arranged to re-schedule the game and it will be played on the 30th June 2014.

Wednesday’s Stableford competition was sponsored by the “Bush Boy’s x 15”. The 15 members have formed a syndicate, and this year they are sponsoring 3 events including the Xmas day break up. Their donation not only covers the main prizes, but also all of the NTP’s and Run-Down balls.  I would like to thank them for their generosity and commitment to the Vets as it is these member sponsorships that enable us to do things like the sausage sizzle, the Xmas lunch and commit to projects on the course.

The game was played in tougher than normal conditions with only 33 of the 77 starters scoring over 30 points. Star of the day was A – Grader Dennis Guion with 42 points.

Next weeks’ event will be a 4 Man Ambrose. This is due to it being our Anzac Day event that is sponsored by the Cooroy RSL Sub-Branch. It will still be an 8.00 am shotgun-start. Come along and get in the spirit.

We will be car pooling for our trip to Bribie Island on Monday the 28th April 2014. Could you please indicate to Grant if you can either take any passengers or require a ride? At this stage Lionel Willett has room for 4 passengers, and Ron Blount can take 3 with him.

Last chance to put your order in for a Cooroy Veterans Golf Club shirt. They cost approx $40 and come with your name and club logo embroided on them.

Thank you to the “Bush Boy’s x 15” : Bill Galvin, Glen Johnstone, Peter Reilly, Kerry Martin, Phil Mason, Jon Sendall, Paddy Knapp, Gary Sheales, John Quodling, Bruce Wilshire, Jim Prendergast, Jim Gregg, John Kelly, John McNamara and Tom Murphy.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
