VETS – NEWSLETTER week ending 16th May 2015

WHAT’s COMING UP

We have an away visit to Nambour on Monday, 18th May.

Wednesday, 20th May is a Stableford sponsored by Dave Chapman, Les Arthur and Denis Guion.

The washed out visit to Peregian Springs has been rescheduled to 25th May – you need to renominate.

Our next FREE Hamburger and drink at Marty’s Hut is on Wednesday, 27th May.  BBQ cooks extraordinaire, Jimmy Henderson and Rod Harper, will be cooking and providing the entertainment.   The competition is a 2 Man Ambrose so start organising a partner.

MATCHPLAY

Match Play participants are encouraged to play matches on a day and time other than Wednesday morning as this will allow them to participate in our Wednesday morning competition.

If this is not practical then match play contestants MUST be prepared to tee off at the start of field or at the end of field on Wednesday morning and cannot compete in the competition of the day.  Competing in Wednesday morning raffle, NTP, Captain’s Choice etc is optional

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Monday’s visit by Horton Park & Tin Can Bay was played in fine weather. We had a field of 92 turn up to play.

The highlight of the day was Ken McKay’s Hole-in-One on the 160metre 6th holeKen was so excited at his 1st Hole-in-One he lost concentration and immediately followed it with 3 wipes.

HOST DAY STATS.

We play a total of 17 host games for 2015 (10 away & 7 at home).

So far this year we have played 6 Host Days (2 away & 4 at home).

A total of 78 players have played in at least one Host Day.

Only 7 players have played all 6 games.

We still have 11 games left this year (8 away & 3 at home).

To be eligible for prizes in the Jim Penman Host Day Trophy you need to play in a minimum of 9 host games (5 away & 4 at home).

The winners will be determined by your best 10 Stableford scores.

Bill Edwards is our leading host day player at the moment with a total of 219 points.  Very consistent effort as Bill is averaging 36.5 points per game.

Wednesday’s V-Par event was a little down on numbers with a field of 72.  The event produced some great scores with Bill Galvin being the star with plus 8.

A huge thank you to our President, Kevin Crundall for sponsoring this event.  If you were lucky enough to win a prize please pass on your thanks to him.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
