Vets – NEWSLETTER week ending 15th November 2014

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Congratulations to Lionel Willett and Alec Lowe for being awarded Life Membership at the Cooroy Golf Club AGM on Wednesday night.  It is great to see that their past efforts have been recognized, and that they have both been rewarded by this honor.

Numbers were down in this week’s competition due to the fact that we had a Host Day at Tewantin/Noosa the same day as our regular competition day.  We still managed to have 60 starters and there were quite a few good scores.

John Butler (left) with 41 points took the A-Grade honors’ on a count back from Brad Jordison.  Greg Flanagan has returned with fire in his belly and scored a very impressive 46 points in B-Grade.   Jim Turnbull has been playing some good golf, and with 41 points was a winner in the C-Grade.   Kevin Olsen chipped in for an eagle on the 8th hole and therefore picks up 6 balls for his effort.

Thanks to Bob Noble for his donation of 9 balls for the “Captain’s Choice” won by Brad Jordison.

On Monday the 17th we are playing host to Woodford, just to confirm that it an 8.30am shotgun start not 8.00am as first advertised. We have made the effort to have a catered meal available for $10.00.  Please support this.

As you are probably aware, next Wednesday’s 2 Man Ambrose is to be a fundraiser for “Legacy”.    It is an 8.00am shotgun start and there is a Gold Coin Donation Sausage Sizzle at completion of play. There will be a couple of other activities on the course that will also require a gold coin to participate.   Please make sure you bring a pocket full of gold coins.

RESULTS FROM VISIT TO TEWANTIN/NOOSA

Ian Lumsden won B Grade with the only other Cooroy player to collect being John Kelly with a ball in the run down.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
