VETS: Newsletter week ending 13th February 2016

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

We had a great turn out for our Host Day on Monday.  We had 35 visitors from Pelican Waters and 45 of our own members played in the heavy conditions.  There were plenty of under par results, but Ken McKay was our stand out with 41 points.  For those who attended you may have noticed that we ran 4 grades.  This is something new to our Host Days and will only occur when the field contains 80 or more players.

On Wednesday we played an American Foursome, and while quite a lot of players don’t like this competition, there are others that like its challenges.  Some of you will be happy to know that there are no more American Foursome’s this year.

HamburgerOn Monday the 15th of February we are hosting Gympie, it will be an 8.00 am shotgun start, please register by 7.30am.

Next Wednesday we play a Single Stableford, it is a time start and there will be a free drink and hamburger for you to enjoy at Marty’s Hut. Once again we are hopeful that “Marty” can attend.  Jim Henderson is looking for a volunteer to assist with the cooking.  Hopefully we can find an injured player as not to interrupt any one else’s golf day.

Our new caterer Lindsay is doing a great job; I tried one of his hamburgers today and give it the thumbs up.  Please support Lindsay as he puts in a great effort and is very reasonably priced.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
