VETS – Newsletter week ending 12th December 2015

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

It was great to see so many members turn up and enjoy our Xmas 4 Man Ambrose and lunch on Wednesday.  We have a very good mix of members and well done to you all for turning up each week to play.

Thank you again to “The Bush Boy’s x 15” for their sponsorship.  As I said on the day: “It is yours and other members’ generosity that makes my job easier, it enables us to pass on member benefits to you all”.  I would encourage anyone who may be interested in becoming a member sponsor next year to either contact Rod Booth or myself.  If you sponsored a competition by yourself or as part of a syndicate this year it is likely that over the next month or two you will be asked if you wish to do so again in 2016.  Thank you all for your participation.

I believe we did quite well in playing a round of golf, feeding everyone and completing the daily competition and annual trophy presentation by 1.00pm.

In my haste I missed a paragraph of my “Captain’s message”, so I will now make up for it now.

Watson Bob“Thank you to my helpers in John Stewart (timed start day’s) and Ron Blount (shotgun start day’s) for putting out the NTP containers each week.  Also a big thanks to Bob Watson (left) , our roving photographer who quite often gives up his chance to play so that he can provide us with some quality pics. Over the past few months, at my request, Bob has been providing me with a variety of nature shots from around our golf course.  Some of these are quite impressive and will be used on our winner’s certificates in 2016”.

This will be my last “Captain’s Corner” until the 2016 season starts.  Most of you I will see over the next few weeks during the “Xmas Break Stableford Competition”.  We will send out the weekly results of this competition on the website, and they will also be up on display on our notice board for those who are not taking part in the comp.

I wish you well over the festive season and look forward to catching up in 2016.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
