Vets – NEWSLETTER week ending 10th May 2014

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Thank you to “John Madill Toyota” for being the sponsor of our May Monthly Medal. The day was a huge success with more than 80 players taking part.

The inform Les Arthur (left) took out the A-Grade honors with a nett 65, B-Grade went to Paddy Knapp with 66, and C-Grade to Brian McMillan 68.

We welcome a new member Rod Harris from Proserpine, I am sure Rod will not only enjoy playing in our Vets Competitions but will also enjoy the friendly atmosphere that we can offer.

This was the 1st week that we introduced our 3 new NTP sponsors.   In case you were not already aware the 4th, 10th, and 15th NTP holes will now be “ALL IN”.

The 4th hole is sponsored by “Richies Bakery”, the 10th hole is sponsored by “Lian Scott Personal Travel Manager, and the 15th hole is sponsored by “Noosa Outlook Prestige Meat”.

It was nice that “Lian” (left) could be at the club to present her prize to Jim Penman for his shot on the 15th.   We are hoping that Lian will be at the club next Wednesday to do the NTP presentation and to discuss any of your travel enquiries.

It was a bit disappointing that nobody got on the green to take out the 4th hole NTP.  Our sponsor Richies Bakery prize will carry over to next week.  Richies is the supplier of our sausage sizzle bread rolls and has lots of other goodies in their stores.  If you are in Richies Cooroy shop say hello to Betty and Judy.

The “Noosa Outlook Prestige Meat” NTP on the 15th was won by one of our regular visitors Ken Ross. The business also looks after us for our sausage sizzle days. Call in and meet the owner Darren, while there let him know you are a member of the Cooroy Veterans Golf Club.

Our 3 best golfers on the day, and therefore taking out the “Kevin Tonkin Best Gross” prizes were, 1st the man himself Kevin Tonkin with 79, 2nd David Lyons 81 on a count back from 3rd Les Terrans.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
