CAPTAIN’s CORNER

A good field of 76 players, including a visitor, battled the hot conditions and the unpredictability of putting on the newly cored greens. On the subject of the greens, it was another great effort by our volunteers who participated in the Working Bee.  Don Clelland enjoyed it so much he stayed all day.

During my round I put my ball into the creek on the 15th.  One of our newer members’ Bob Watson thought he would do the polite thing for the “Captain” and fetch his ball for him.  Now Bob is not the most elegant person on dry land, but let me tell you he is worse in water. Bob toppled over much to our amusement, and was seen floundering about like a wounded platypus. The one consolation for Bob was that it did cool him down.

Our B-Grade players need to do a bit of work on their games, with 36 points being enough to take out the major prize. In A-Grade Dave Walder with 46 points and C-Grade John Round (left) with 45 points proved that big scores were possible.

Dave Walder further contributed to a great performance with an eagle on the 11th hole.  Dave is happy to provide a shot by shot description to anyone who will listen.

There have been some concerns by the Green Staff about players hitting up on them. Remember that Green Staff have the right of way on the course.

COMPLEMENTARY BIRTHDAY DRINK

We have resumed the complementary birthday drink for financial members so if you had a birthday recently mention it the starter next time you play.

SICK LIST

Bruce Cowan has had a successful knee operation and is recovering well.  We may see him back on the course very shortly.

NEW MEMBER

Welcome to new member Bob Read.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
