NEWSLETTER week ending 5th October 2013 (Vets)

MEMBERS’ COOROY GOLF CLUB ACCOUNT

The major prizes in our competitions – i.e. winner and runner up – are quite often in the form of a $ credit to the member’s account with Cooroy Golf Club (The Club).

The credit must be spent at The Club – it can be used to purchase goods or services but not pay annual membership or levy.

If you have been a major prize winner don’t forget to check the balance in your club account from time to time – spending it will help The Club.

MESSAGE FROM THE GREENS DIRECTOR

Grathan Leatherbarrow, Greens Director and member of the Vets, has expressed his thanks for the great effort and fine job The Vets are doing in cleaning up the course during the monthly Working Bees.

CAPTAIN’S CORNER

On Tuesday the 15th October the Women are holding their 9 hole, 3 Person Ambrose Invitation Day.  Those who played last year will recall a very enjoyable day.  The 9 hole competition begins at 8.00am with a Shotgun Start with the Fee being $5.00.  The nomination sheet to play is at the Club.   Please indicate on the sheet if you are able to supply your cart and if you are able to take a passenger with you.

Monday’s Working Bee was a great success with 25 volunteers turning up to assist with coring of the greens.

The cored greens may have been difficult to putt on for most, but certainly this was not the case for “The Little Master”, Jimmy Penman, who came in with a 77 off the stick to take out the Captain’s Choice” for best gross in A-Grade.  And what a great score with a nett 60 by Bob Brookfield (left) to post a win in B-Grade.

Please note a couple of changes to our program:

  • Next weeks’ Stroke round on Wednesday the 9th October has been changed to a Single Stableford.
  • The 4BBB on Wednesday the 23rd October will now be an 8.00am Shotgun Start.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
