NEWSLETTER week ending 2nd November 2013 (Vets)

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

As our Wednesday Raffle is a free raffle, the decision has been made, that on Shotgun Starts only, you have to still be at the club to win a prize.  If you are not in attendance and your number is drawn, there will be a re-draw.  Please note this is for Shotgun starts only.

My attention has been drawn to a few instances where players have been breaching or stretching the rules. We play mainly for enjoyment, but the rules of golf must be adhered to.   If you notice something that should not be happening in your group, don’t turn a blind eye, and don’t be afraid to speak up.

Two more games this week, the first coming about on Monday with the withdrawal of Bribie Island due to lack of numbers on their part. We had a small field of 30 starters who played a Single Stableford in one division. Our winner was the inform Errol Radley with 42 points who won on a count back from Terry Hymas.  Don Clelland cleaned up with 2 NTP’s.

Wednesday was the 1st Round of the Vets Championships.  Best Nett scores and winners for the Day were: A Grade Tony Bernhagen 60, B Grade Kerry Martin 56, and C Grade Bill Hesse 59.  Kerry Martin’s 1 under the card (36) on the back 9 was outstanding.

Championship leaders (Best Gross) at this stage are:

A Grade

Jim Penman 76, Les Terrans 76, Errol Radley 79, Ossie Osborne 82, Peter Piggott 82

Unfortunately Tony Bernhagen’s 76 will not qualify, as he hasn’t played in 6 single events.

B Grade

Kerry Martin 76, Ron Blount 83, Stuart Wright 89, Dave Passenger 89, Don Clelland 89, Phil Mason 89

C Grade

Bill Hesse 86, Dave Chapman 98, Col Easton 99, Kevin Crundall 101, John Tomlins 101

2nd Round of the Championships

  • All players will be playing off their latest handicap for this game.
  • All players’ grades will remain unchanged from round one.
  • Qualification: players must have played in six single events this year.
  • In case of a tie there will be a play off over 18 holes the following week.

Our next Working Bee will be held on Tuesday the 12th of November.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
