NEWSLETTER week ending 14th September 2013 (Vets)

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

We were paid a very fleeting visit by a mystery Captain for the presentation!

We enjoyed fine weather and had a very good attendance for our 4 Man Ambrose Event.

The changes to most of our normal tee positions sure made you think a bit more on which club to select. These types of events are meant to be fun and from the vast majority of comments that I have received it appears that most players enjoyed the day.

It was also great to see so many players stay for the presentations.  This is a great way to spend some time with some of our newer members and make them feel welcome.

Thank you must go to “The Golf Tragics” (aka Dave Passenger, Brad Lavender, Alan Emery, Rod Booth, Graham Laing), Kevin Crundall, Rod Booth, Steve Howes, Jim Henderson, yours truly, and Cooroy Golf Club Manager Wayne Patston for donating the trophy’s.

This coming Monday we will be hosting Gympie and Tin Can Bay, it looks like being a big day with 94 starters at this stage.

Next Wednesday is a Single Stableford and will see the start of our Summer Season with the first group of players teeing off at 6.30am.

JIM PENMAN SINGLE MATCHPLAY TROPHY – Finalists

Congratulations to Graham Laing and Terry Lyons for making it through to the Single Match Play final.

They will be our joint Starters next week and then head out to play the final at the end of the field.  Wish them both good golf when you register.

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
