Message from the President – December 2024

Dear Members,

Welcome to the first communication from the newly elected Cooroy Golf Club (CGC) Management Committee. We are excited to embark on this journey with you, guided by a shared vision of a more united, inclusive, and thriving club. Together, we aim to enhance the club’s facilities, foster a welcoming ambience, and invest in the development of golf at all levels, creating an environment that members and the broader community can be proud of.

A Heartfelt Thank You
We want to start by acknowledging the incredible contributions that make CGC what it is today:

  • Volunteers: Your time and dedication to supporting the club in its daily functions are invaluable. You are the backbone of our club.
  • Previous Committee Members: We recognise and appreciate the hard work, time, and commitment you have invested in the club’s success.
  • Staff: From the course to the clubhouse, your efforts ensure CGC runs smoothly and remains a place of enjoyment for all. We encourage members to show appreciation for the wonderful work you do.
  • Sponsors: Your generous support enables us to provide a vibrant golf experience for our members. We are deeply grateful for your ongoing commitment.

New Roles and Initiatives
We are delighted to announce that Doug Pearce has taken on the Greens Director role, endorsed by the committee. Doug will collaborate with Warren to develop a strategic plan for on-course improvements, ensuring our greens continue to flourish.

Constitution and Member Engagement
At the recent General Meeting, the proposed constitution was not passed. We recognise the importance of this document and are committed to working collaboratively with members to create one that reflects the collective vision of our club. We plan to:

  • Review the current voting process to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Host forums and use various communication channels to gather feedback and share updates.
  • Present a revised constitution for member approval once these steps are complete.

Communication and Collaboration
We are dedicated to fostering transparent communication and ensuring all golf-related news, results, and events are accessible on a centralised platform on our website. Over the coming months, we will engage with various groups and match committees to make this vision a reality.

Priorities for the Future
While CGC is financially stable, there are key areas requiring attention:

  • Water storage solutions
  • Clubhouse upgrades
  • Parking improvements
  • Membership growth and retention
  • Staff retention and support
  • IT infrastructure updates
  • Junior golf development

We are committed to assessing these areas and creating a prioritised investment plan. Updates will be shared with members as we progress.

Celebrating Our Golf Community
Congratulations to all winners of this year’s Honour Board events – your achievements reflect the heart and spirit of CGC. A special thanks to the match committees for their dedication in organising these competitions.

We also extend our gratitude to the men’s and ladies’ pennant teams and our junior golfers for representing CGC in regional events. These efforts showcase the strength and talent of our members.

We recently met with Marc Bright to advance the “All Abilities” program in collaboration with the local council. This initiative is a shining example of how our club can engage meaningfully with the wider community, and we are proud to support its growth.

Your Voice Matters
We value your input and encourage you to reach out to the committee with your ideas, questions, or concerns. For formal feedback, please email the Secretary ([email protected]), where they will be recorded, tabled and addressed by the entire committee. Updated contact details will soon be available on our website.

This is just the beginning of our journey together. We are committed to regular communication and collaborative engagement as we work towards a bright future for CGC.

Yours in golf,

Mark Kelly

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
