MEN: Masters Pennants Update

Masters Pennants Update and Report – 5/2/2017

Welcome to the new season. Great to see so much honest enthusiasm for the game and the chance to represent Cooroy golf club.

Our first game today was at Gympie, lucky for most (sorry Peter), you will have to guess which Peter, and a 7:00 am start to beat the heat.

We had the pleasure of a first ever disabled caddie program, run by Mark Bright and Peter Kennedy.  Donna and Matte were to be congratulated on their efforts, with the program given generous support, well done guys, and thanks to Maroochy Rivers on participating.

First out was J McD, and disabled Caddy No3, great effort by Jeff to win 6 and 5 with a great couple of 3 woods to sleep over, well done Jeff.

Young Geoff Linde was next out, unfortunately not able to carry his good form thru today, great effort in trying condition, going down 3 and 4

Peter (where is that coffee) Jeucken, it was great to see that Peter had left his Saturday form where it belongs, it was a hard fought 2 up win on the 18th.

Peter (Solid) Buchbach took well to the challenge of giving his opposition 3 shots, as he does more often than not, romped home 6 and 4, well done Peter.

Peter Kennedy was to be commended for his efforts with the caddie program, Peter started off nervously and moved into match play mode with ease, with Peter Fryer’s expert help (thanks, Peter) came thru with a great first up win 3 and 2, giving his opponent one shot.

Shane (Shanker) Scanlan, after forgoing cricket to rest up for pennants (love the commitment) and turning down the option of a cart, was also in the giving 3 shots away brigade, nothing like a challenge, with Big Ray carrying the bag, Shane flew the flag to a 2 and 1 win, well done to Shanker and Super Ray.

Mark Bright, as always has to be congratulated for the fantastic effort he puts in with all abilities and the caddy program, Mark also gave 2 shots away, rumour has it that he was 4 down, fought his way back, coming down the 18th, all square, nearly puts second on the green, chips to 6 inches, opponent lips out birdie putt.  Another great come from behind win to mark 1 up.

Special mention to the Caddies Donna and Matte; great effort guys, look forward to seeing you out next round.  Also a big shout out to Ray Nolan and Peter Fryer.

Next week we host the Junior Pennants, 12th February.  If available come and spot, cook, and or see some great young golfers.

The following weekend 19th February, we host the Masters Pennants at Cooroy.  We will require cooks and spotters for this day, let’s all chip in if we can.

Our next hit out will be on the 26th February at Noosa, against our neighbors Nambour, with Shane (Shanker) Scanlan and Geoff Linde already putting apologies in, changes are to be made, so practice hard, over the next couple of weeks,

Well done to all on a great 6 and 1 team score.

Good golfing!

  • Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

  • Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

  • Lovely course. Challenging enough to make it fun, but not too difficult for high handicappers

  • Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque, but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.
