From the President
Membership renewals were due on June 30th. Quite a lot of members have not yet renewed — more than usual compared to past years.
If you are tossing up whether to renew because you don’t play often enough to justify full membership, you might like to consider Pay-as-You-Play membership (see below).
Regards,
Greg Michael
Finance Director
The position of Finance Director is still vacant.
Expressions of interest from any member interested in temporarily filling the position are welcome.
Wayne’s World
The exclusive arrangement that CGC had with Titleist has now ended and a range of Bridgestone products have begun to arrive.
- Bridgestone balls are now in stock
- Accessories (bags, gloves, etc.) should arrive soon
COVID-19 has delayed production and delivery of golf equipment in general.
Turf Talk
Some of the cart-path upgrades have been completed.
There is still some to do — in particular the section on the 5th adjacent to and just beyond the ladies tee.
Other projects (e.g. the upgrade of the ladies 3rd tee) have been put on hold until the new Greens Superintendent is on board.
Staff
The Greens Superintendent’s position was advertised on the Australian Sports Turf Managers Association website. Thirteen applications were received.
Unfortunately, the 3-day COVID-19 lockdown interfered with interviews, but three applicants were eventually interviewed and an appointment has been made.
Warren Smith
Warren Smith will begin on August 9th.
He has already worked as a Greens Superintendent:
- Managed the private course at Cooroy Mountain for many years
- Was responsible for most of its construction
- Currently 2IC at Noosa Hills
He comes highly recommended and has plenty of experience managing budgets, training staff, preparing work programs, and repairing machinery.
Warren has already organised to meet the greens staff and undertake a site inspection before his start date so that he can hit the ground running. He lives locally and has an intimate knowledge of Cooroy and the local community.
Please make him welcome.
Interim Period
In the interim period, Brendan O’Brien has done a superb job keeping the course up to scratch during some difficult weather conditions.
With:
- Two staff vacancies, and
- The apprentice, Ayden, at college
Brendan has, at times, been maintaining the course on his own.
An excellent effort. Many thanks to Brendan for his hard work during the last few weeks.
