Tee-off for Breast Cancer Research
Once again Cooroy Golf Club women held their annual Tee Off for Breast Cancer Research. An army of 45 women in pink attacked the course in excellent weather. Many with carts made a great effort to dress them up as well. The prize for the best dressed cart went to Lee Williams.
The day was sponsored by Noosa River and Canal Cruises and they generously presented the three highest scorers with vouchers to use on their popular cruises. Their generosity extends to providing the club with an evening cruise where all proceeds from the sale of tickets go to Breast Cancer Research. This was supposed to be held earlier this month but bad weather forced a cancellation and we try again on 14 November.
We are very fortunate to have among our members, a former member of the Australian National Women’s Cricket Team from 1968 to 1976 in Patsy Fayne (nee May). She gave us an extremely entertaining account of the joys and pitfalls of being a woman competing in a sport which was considered to be the domain of males. The Australian Cricket Association of which she is a member very generously donated another $500 to our cause.
The event was a Novelty Stableford where women could buy escape stickers. The use of these allowed them to count just 1 putt on a green or to avoid the penalty for dropping out of a hazard or for dropping out of a bunker. As a result there were some excellent scores which are listed below.
Our small club was able to raise $716 today from a raffle and escape tickets with another $630 coming in from the cruise. A very satisfying day. More funds will be generated from the large raffle being held at the club and from Saturday’s event.
