CAPTAIN’s CORNER
A field of 87 played in this Wednesday’s 2 Man Ambrose event in overcast but dry and at times, hot and humid conditions.
Vice-Captain Jimmy Henderson and I have been looking through our records and it appears that under our charge our best field was 94 on the 10th of December 2014. We are out to break that record and an attempt will be made when we play our Irish 4B Stableford celebrating St Patrick ’s Day on the 16th March. We will supply all players with a free sausage sizzle and whatever else it takes to encourage a massive turn up.
It is interesting to note that during “Life Member” Jim Penman’s long reign as Captain the field sizes regularly broke through the ton mark.
In today’s competition we had a 2 team tie for 1st place. In the past ties in Partnered events involving nett scores (e.g. Ambrose, Foursome & Canadian 2 Stroke) required a mathematical genius to work out a winner on a count–back. Ties in partnered events will now result in a split of prize money – if it’s good enough for the Pro’s it’s good enough for us!
So today 1st and 2nd prize money is $40 + $25= $65. As math’s wiz Greg Michael quickly and correctly pointed out, each winner receives $32.50 each. Tony Foster, Ozzie Osborne, Jason Egan, and Hasse Andersson will no doubt spend it wisely.
Please note that in all other events the normal count-back system will take place.
Does anyone have any golf paraphernalia or other items that they would like to donate for a Special Raffle to be run soon? I am chasing 100 prizes of various values and aim to sell 100 tickets so that everyone wins a prize. At this stage I have collected 86 items (all donated) that vary from a new golf bag down to a golf ball.
I can confirm that we have resolved the problem regarding the shortage of sausages (Jimmy has already placed the order) and therefore a FREE sausage sizzle will be provided at the completion of next week’s Monthly Medal.
