VETS: Newsletter week ending 15th July 2017

VALE DON PIGDON

Don Pigdon‘s funeral will be a private affair.

There will be a free hamburger and drink stop at Marty’s Hut next Wednesday and the opportunity to take a brief timeout to toast and remember Don.  We will sadly miss his genial manner, and happy outlook – a true gentleman.

Don’s achievements in life and business were many, none more so than being the first commercial grower of Carambola (star fruit) on the Sunshine Coast.  Don retained a few trees and regularly brought in a supply for members.

Don loved his golf but in recent years found it difficult to lower his handicap. Whenever he registered for a game, you could be sure Don, with a wry grin, would enquire about his handicap knowing full well that it hadn’t improved.

2017 VETS SINGLE MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

We settled the draw for our 2017 Single Matchplay Championship on Wednesday with some interesting R1 match-ups.

None better than Peter Kennedy and Peter Buchbach who will both be playing off scratch.

Another interesting game will be between Captain and Vice Captain with Jim Henderson playing off 1 and Grant playing off scratch.  Dave Lyons has accepted the role of caddie for this game with suspicion his main motivation is to be involved in the after game celebrations.

The pressure will be on Bruce Wilshire to eliminate last year’s winner Bruce McLean; both players will play off scratch.

The full draw is Posted on the website Noticeboard.
