Vale: Jim Penman

Jim Penman (1)Jim Penman passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, 1st December 2016.

As well as being active in Cooroy Golf Club as Captain for many years Jim spent 16 years as The Vets Captain leaving an enduring legacy.  The success of Cooroy Veterans’ Golf Club is due, in no small part, to Jim’s foresight, dedication and energy.

It would be nigh impossible to estimate the amount of time Jim spent on organisation of games, competitions and District Host Days and unselfishly devoting his time to fostering golf at Cooroy and in the District.  If it involved golf or just a friendly chat Jim was always there willing to help and offer some wise advice.

Through golf Jim made many long time friends throughout the District and wider Veteran Golfer community.  His advice in all matters golf was eagerly sought after and willingly given.

An avid golfer, club honour boards are testament to Jim’s golfing prowess.  Jim always enjoyed a day at golf with his many friends and was an inspiration to ‘younger vets’ as he would regularly shoot less than his age.

In 2010 Jim was honoured with life membership of the Cooroy Veterans’ Golf Club, the only person to be so honoured.  In 2015 Jim was awarded Life Membership of Cooroy Golf Club.

We have lost an inspiring figure, a true gentleman and a magnificent stalwart of the club.  Many of us will never forget how he welcomed us as new members, how sharing he was of his knowledge and his gentle way of dealing with things.

He will be missed – rest in peace Jim.
