CAPTAIN’s CORNER

Most of us missed our cancelled Host Day at Peregian Springs, but not all players missed out. Ian McMullen is not on our e-mail list and was unaware that our day had been cancelled. He turned up and was surprised that there were no familiar faces in the car park. His trip was not in vain as he was invited to join the PS Vets who still played their game with carts on paths only. The cancelled game has been rescheduled for Monday the 25^th May and you are required to re-nominate.

Ian has been bragging that he came in with the leading Cooroy score for the day.

This Wednesday was monthly medal day, and it was nice that our sponsor John Madill (left) could join us for a game. Ian Mulhall (left) kindly donated a box of 15 balls that we used for the run down, and Bob Read with a nett 61 became our first multiple medal winner this year (he also won in March).

Errol Radley is our 2^nd player to win the $25 Thai Tong voucher. His golfing partner Kevin Olsen won the other voucher a couple of weeks ago so it is a fair bet they will form a team and head to Yandina soon.

You only have until next week to nominate for the SCDVGA Team challenge that will be played at Pelican Waters on Thursday the 21^st May. The nomination sheet will be out on our raffle table next Wednesday.

From next Wednesday our caterer 246Ate Catering will be operating out of the kitchen with a variety of food. To make their effort worthwhile and to ensure they stay, please support them.

COOROY GOLF CLUB NEWSLETTER

You will have noticed in the new Cooroy Golf Club NEWSLETTER there will be a regular Hole by Hole article including a Pro and Amateur Tip on how to play the hole as well as humorous or just plain sad but true stories about each hole.

The Editors are looking for contributions on Amateur Tips and stories for each hole. If you can make a contribution on either or both of these topics please contact Wayne or Rod. They will be used.

To refresh the 1^st edition of the Newsletter covered Hole 3. Here is an extract.

“The 3^rdis a par 4 dog leg left with the fairway sloping left into trees hiding a water hazard all the way to a generous green with severe surface contours. The back and right side of green falls away steeply.
PRO TIP: Favour right side of fairway approach with slight draw. Anywhere left and the slope of the fairway will make it difficult to go at the pin, particularly if it is a blue pin (back)placement.
AMATEUR TIP: Throw your ball in the creek, take a wipe and walk to the 4^th Tee.”

One of the most common complaints across The Club is the lack of regular communication. The Cooroy Golf Club Newsletter is aimed at improving communication. Feedback on the 1^st Edition has been good but it will only succeed and continue if members are involved and engaged – get involved and engaged.

Best value for money golf course on the Sunshine Coast. A really fun course layout, forces you to use multiple clubs off tees And have good course management. The grains are in great condition and are really receptive

Fantastic golf course! Really well setup with signage, sand buckets, and ball cleaners on most tees. This course is designed for playing 1-18 consecutively rather than stopping midway. A ‘grip it and rip it’ mindset will lead to disappointment as there are many hidden hazards (yes I speak from experience!). Some of the fairways are deceptively narrow or have huge swathes of flanking rough hard to see from a distance. Lots of variety! Long par 5s to short par 3s and everything in between. Take care when walking between tees as its easy for first timers to get disoriented. At just $40 I felt it was great value and would definitely go back.

This is a friendly country course in great condition. Greens are in good nick. Well worth a visit if you ate on the area.

Great place to play golf. Course is a good challenge for all HC’s. Very picturesque,but if you walk it the last couple of holes uphill might get you. Very limited parking. Worth a look.

I’ve played at this golf course several times. The par 4 course is a bit short but well-maintained, and the lady at the pro shop were very friendly.
