Issue 3 - President & Vice President Appointed

Sports-Football-Divider-3
Hi reader,

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Following the decision taken at the Special General Meeting held on 20th March that Jason Egan be removed from the position of President the Management Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Greg Michael as President and Peter Piggott as Vice President.

Leith Barr has withdrawn her resignation and will continue as House Director.

You can get to know Greg better through the Meet The Management Team article in the April issue of News Update Chip In to be published later this week.

We now look forward to a period of stability and progress.

PROTOCOL FOR RAISING COURSE MATTERS

If you run across greens staff on the course say hello and offer compliments but please respect their busy schedule and don’t make demands on their time.

Suggestions for the course are welcome, but as a matter of protocol, please direct them and any complaints to our Greens Director, Dave Lyons rather than to Todd McNamee or greens staff to avoid distracting them from their work.

FINANCES

February saw a cash flow loss of $20,714 but included one off insurance costs of:
  • $20,491.21
  • Write off of Golf Equipment of $1,639
There will be an insurance claim recovery for the fire in the switchboard of approximately $18,000 after taking into account the $2,500 excess.

House Gross Profit was $11,336 against budget of $9,950 due to a solid turnover of $22,086 against budget of $18,500 and a solid Gross Margin for bar sales of 55% which is smack on budget of 55%. Overall Gross Margin, which includes golf equipment, dropped to 51% but can be accounted for due to the loss of golf stock caused by the recent fire.

So, once again a very good month – through a very difficult time with the fire.
Well done once again Wayne and the team.

Other Income totaled $53,548 against budget of $53,550. Overall, total income exceeded budget by $1,378 and, given the fire circumstances etc, considered a great result.

House expenses (excluding insurance cost of $20,491) were under budget by $2,245, once again tightly managed by Wayne.

Todd McNamee and his team are doing their part in controlling course expenses and still presenting a course in great condition.

The 'Toro arrangement' has been paid out thanks to members who chose to prepay their membership. A conservative forecast for the remaining months of the financial year without Toro costs suggests a loss for the year of around $5,000 - a good result in the circumstances.

Membership prepayments will have an impact on future cash flow. Our strategy to offset the impact of this loss of cash flow is two fold.
  • Increase new member numbers. 26 new members have taken up membership as a result of the New Member Special Deal campaign launched in December 2018 and continuing through to June this year. You can assist by promoting membership of The Club.
  • A personalised focus on retaining existing members at renewal in July - the objective is to minimise the renewal lapse rate.

MARKETING and PROMOTION

As there has been no expression of interest in the position of Marketing Coordinator we have established a Marketing and Communication Committee with a brief to look at a broader, more co-ordinated approach to marketing and promoting The Club.

Members of the committee are: Greg Michael, Andrew Dick, Wayne Patston and Rod Booth. The committee will call on expertise and additional resources as needed.

EMAIL COMMUNICATION

The objective of the recently introduced MEMBER COMMUNICATION email newsletter is to speak directly to and actively engage with members so we want your feedback.

Judging by the high 'read rate', introduction of a communication aimed at members only has been well received. If there are particular topics you would like to hear more about as a member please let us know by replying to this email.

There are currently around 320 subscribers to our MEMBER COMMUNICATION email newsletter. The 'read rate' of around 75% for each of the two issues to date shows exceptional interest.

Our two other email newsletters will continue.

NEWS UPDATE CHIP IN is aimed at keeping subscribers up to date more broadly on what's happening at Cooroy Golf Club. There are around 440 subscribers including a large number of non members. The objective is to actively expand this subscriber list as part of the broader, more co-ordinated approach to marketing and promoting The Club.

VETS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER is aimed at keeping subscribers up to date on what's happening at Cooroy Vets. Subscription is open to anyone - there are currently around 185 subscribers, well above Vets membership numbers. We have Vets on the subscriber list who no longer play but enjoy staying involved through the newsletter.

From The Shed - March 2019

Concerns about the Golf Course – tell Committee not Greens Staff The Greens Director is not aware of any negative comments being directed towards our Greens Staff, but it is still appropriate to remind members about proper protocol. By all means, pass on positive feedback, encouragement etc directly to Todd, Paul, Brendan and Alex. They would certainly appreciate it. But …
