2018 SINGLE MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
The final has been decided with Lance Horn taking the title from Peter Kennedy 6 and 5. Giving away a shot a hole, rumour has it that Peter sought advice from a sports psychologist but couldn’t counter Lance’s steady play.
|
Congratulations to both players and all those who competed.
|
|
Lance automatically qualifies for the 2019 ‘round of 16’ playoff.
|
Grant continues to maintain a comfortable lead (he says his aim is to average 40 points for the 10 games - his average is currently 39.7), however, 2nd and 3rd places are still hotly contested.
Ron Blount has jumped to 2nd with Andre Smit and Peter Buchbach hot on his heels. Two more single Stableford competitions remain for the year.
WEDNESDAY
The Captain’s Birthday Coloured Ball event proved quite costly, at least for sponsor Grant, but he did pick up the NTP on 6th.

22 yellow balls were issued at the start of play with only four teams returning to the clubhouse with the ball. Some didn’t make it past the second hole. The John Kelly Team was going well with 29 points after 12 holes but then disaster struck on the 13th!

Errol was so pleased with his team leadership skills he insisted the Secretary write his name on the yellow ball in large red letters to prove his team was one of the four to complete the course without losing the ball.

A rousing rendition of happy birthday at the end of the competition brought a happier ending to the Captain’s day.
|
A good field of 83 and some excellent scores again this week saw a tight finish for places in all three grades.
The highlights:

Mike Kent took A Grade on a count back from Peter Kennedy with 42 with Peter Piggott taking 3rd place with 41.
|
A three way tie saw Kerry Martin take B Grade from Paddy Knapp and Roman Pajak with 41.
|
|
A stylish 46 by Bob Read saw him take C Grade from a ‘return to form’ Jim Turnbull with 45 and Dennis Beckhaus with 44.
