VOLUNTEER WORKING BEES
Volunteer working bees will get underway again shortly. There are some exciting new projects planned for 2019. Working Bees will also continue work started last year.
We have previously advised of potential involvement in a very significant project with Noosa and District Landcare which has secured funding from the Commonwealth Government and SEQ for projects aimed at improving the water quality of Lake McDonald.
While our golf course is not seen as a major contributor to sediment and nutrient flow into the lake, it is not a minor one either. Noosa and District Landcare have allocated $15,000 of this funding to improving the “environmental footprint” of Cooroy Golf Course. The project will involve planting some 2,000 aquatic plants on creek banks, with preparation, the supply of plants, maintenance and monitoring by Noosa and District Landcare.
Apart from the environmental aspect, the project will significantly enhance the aesthetics of the course. Noosa and District Landcare see our site as ideal for promoting and advertising involvement with the community - the media will be involved.
Working with Noosa and District Landcare, planning and preparation for the project is well underway.
It will not cost us anything except “in-kind” contribution, e.g. volunteer working bees and the donation of rocks and other materials.
There will be a major volunteer working bee on Monday, 4th March 2019 to assist with planting under the supervision of Noosa and District Landcare. They will also organise the attendance of local school groups and the Noosa and District Landcare trainee group will also assist.
More information will be provided later in January 2019.
