INTERNATIONALS vs AUSSIES

Bendigo Bank and Grant (c)
We are pleased to announce Cooroy Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank as sponsor for our prestigious Internationals versus Aussies annual event next week. Grant is pictured with manager, Geoff Edwards, also a member of Cooroy Vets, after signing up for a new personal account, demonstrating support for a business that supports us.

The field for this event is divided into three teams according to heritage with the aggregate of the best 10 scores for each team determining the winner.

Ably led by Jim (aka Irish) Henderson, the Internationals have held the coveted pewter mug for the last two years, much to the chagrin of Aussie skippers, Dave Lyons and Grant Smallacombe. Tactics are being devised to right the outcome this year.

As the only skipper not to have won the pewter mug Grant has first choice in team selection. Your reporter has very reliable information that Grant has been closely following the form of every player over the past few weeks. If we were federal parliament there would almost certainly be a high court challenge to some heritage selections but, after all, that pewter mug comes filled with beer at the cost of the losing skippers.

This is the fourth year of the event, so Grants 'thoughtful justification' for lack of previous victories; that he needed to wait until there is sufficient room lower down on the mug to inscribe his name (it is rather long after all) as winner is becoming less plausible.

Don't forget to wear the colours of your country.

WEDNESDAY

Another magnificent spring day with excellent course conditions which clearly suited our 2 Man Aggregate Stableford winners Graham Laing and John Butler with an aggregate 83. Graham also collected an NTP on the 12th.

Life must be good at the Palm Lakes Resort as Steve Howes and Geoff Cowan continued their good form collecting the runner up prize.

Third place went to early starters Keith Harkins and Bob Noble.

Beware when the Captain can't play because he then has time on his hands to keep a close watch on things like time taken by each group to complete their round. There was a difference of over an hour between the quickest and slowest groups but overall times were acceptable ranging from 3 hours 15mins to 4 hours 28 minutes. The quicker groups tended to be the early starters.

2018 VETS AGM
