A reminder that our final Vets competition and presentation day for 2023 is Wednesday, 20th December 2023. It is an 8:00 am shotgun start with lunch after.

We are taking a 2-week break over Xmas.

WEDNESDAY

CAPTAIN's CORNER

Membership 2024
Membership is due in January and has increased to $15 for male members and $10 for restricted female members. Restricted members can play in Host Day and District events; however, they are not eligible to play in our Wednesday competitions. Five dollars of your Cooroy Veterans Golf Club Membership is paid to the SCDVGA as an affiliation fee, the SCDVGA then pay $3 of this to the QVGA.

The preferred method for paying Membership is direct deposit to the Vets bank account:

BSB: 014-557
Account: 3902-39948

Competition fees will remain at $15.

Any member male or female requiring a Vets shirt is advised that the cost is $40 and this needs to be paid for when ordering. You can order by contacting Grant or Rod.

Wednesday's
Our average Wednesday field size for 2023 was 86, this is very encouraging.

Our biggest day was on January the 25th when 101 players turned up, the smallest field was 65 when rain threatened on July the 5th. Then, of course, only 56 played at Cooroy, while 24 went to Noosa on November 8th. We did not cancel a single Wednesday game in 2023.

Our first game in 2024 will be on the 10th of January; we have a good variety of competitions planned which can be viewed on the CGC events calendar.

Now that we have the use of 4 different Tee colours to choose from, we have planned 5 All Tee events, 3 Yellow Tee events, 2 Red Tee events, 2 Blue Tee events, and of course the rest of the games will be off the usual White Tees. It is important that we get some statistics into the system for these different coloured tees, as Golf Queensland is planning to re-rate all Queensland golf courses sometime in 2024.

Thanks to the generosity of our member sponsors, we have planned for at least 2 Free Sausage Sizzles, and 2 Free Hamburger and Drinks at Marty’s Hut, plus the annual Free Xmas lunch and Trophy Presentation.

Our last game of the year and Xmas Lunch in 2024 will be on Wednesday the 18th of December. If you were to play in all Wednesday, Host and District games in 2024, you could play in a total of 73 games.

Host Day and District Events

Unfortunately, there was a decline in participation in 2023. An average of 30 Cooroy players attended our Home games. An average of 27 Visitors attended our Home games. An average of 25 Cooroy players attended our Away games. In 2024 we will be playing 9 home and 9 away Host Day games. These will all be Medley events. All home games are played on a Monday.

Your new Host Day Captain is Steve Paice who will work in conjunction with Jim Henderson and Grant Smallacombe in organising these events.

We will be using the Simple Golf online booking system for these games. The booking sheet will open at 6.00 pm, 3 weeks before the competition date just like it does for our Wednesday games.

Our visit from Mt. Coolum will be a 7.30 shotgun start, all other home games will be time starts.

Times and fees for away games will not be known until received from those clubs. Other clubs in the district next year are Headland, Caloundra, Mount Coolum, Maroochy River, Peregian Springs, Nambour, Noosa, Gympie, and Tin Can Bay. Some of these clubs have indicated that their fees to play will increase next year, most of this is due to the parent club wanting more. We will be doing mainly time starts, as it allows the Cooroy Golf Club to get social players on the course a lot earlier, at 9.30 am instead of 1.30 pm.

There will also be five district events throughout the year. These are open to all Cooroy Vets members. Details, and dates for these will be on the CGC events calendar, and also on our Vet’s notice board - look for our Host Day program. Host Day information will also be mentioned through our regular Vet’s newsletters.

Our 2024 Jim Penman Host Day Trophy will undergo a couple of changes to the prize values and eligibility. We will be increasing the main prize to $250.00 with the hope that this may increase participation. There will be a top 8 placings, replacing the existing top 10. To be eligible you must play in at least 10 home or away Host Day games. The host day trophy is open to all Vet’s members. Details will be on the Vet's notice board.
