WEDNESDAY

Thanks to a great effort from the Green Staff, and a bit of rain, the course was a much more enjoyable place to play on. The greens are coming along nicely after their recent renovations which suited our 2023 Medal of Medal winner John Butler.

Congratulations to John as it is difficult enough to win a “Monthly Medal”, let alone take out the big one.

Our December Monthly Medal winners were:
A – Grade: Brian Clemow 71
B – Grade: John Butler 64
C – Grade: Steve Paice 71

These players are now eligible for the 2024 “Medal of Medals”.

It was great to see a couple of past legends at the course on Wednesday, aged 89 and 91 they have a lot of experience and a wealth of knowledge about our golf course history. Pictured are John Round and Brad Lavender. (we leave it to you to decide who is the senior) with a couple of our younger Vets.

CAPTAIN's CORNER

In our group, we had an interesting occurrence on the 7th green, when Tony Atkins whilst having a practice putt, accidentally hit his ball that sent it sideways about 8 feet. Under the rules, he was allowed to replace the ball in its original location and then sank the putt. “NO PENALTY”.

Do you know where else you can do this without attracting a penalty?

Do you know where you attract a penalty for doing this?

There is also no penalty if you accidentally move your ball in the teeing area, whether nudging it off a tee peg or clipping it on a practice swing, but this is slightly different as the ball is not in play on a hole until a stroke has been made at it.

Similarly, on the putting green, there is now no penalty for accidental movement of either your ball or ball marker, but in both scenarios, you must replace the ball (or marker) to its original position before playing, estimating that spot to the best of your ability if you cannot be 100% sure.

However, if you move your ball on a practice swing anywhere else on the golf course other than the putting green - so in the general area, bunkers or penalty areas - there is a one-stroke penalty and you must replace the ball before playing it.

Just another note on the rules of golf, it was reported by a player from another group that he witnessed someone drop a ball alongside the fence where the original ball had gone out of bounds. This is not allowed under the existing rules at Cooroy. The player should have gone back to the tee if this was the case. Not being in the group you cannot be certain of what is going on some distance away.

But just to make it clear, if this did in fact occur, and I certainly hope that it didn’t, both the player and his marker are cheating.

WHAT's COMING UP

If you have your name down for the 13-hole Invitation Ambrose on Tuesday, 5th December 2023 don't forget to turn up. It is a 7:00 am shotgun start.
