HOST DAY PROGRAM

With only 3 games to go, Greg Michael is the leader in the 'JIM PENMAN HOST DAY TROPHY'.

Greg has played in 11 games so far and has scored 336 points from his best 10 games.

Best scores in some of the previous years are: in 2019 Andy Stewart scored 381 points, and in 2018 Jason Egan scored 377 points.

With fewer games played this year due to no games with Pelican Waters and Headland, plus a cancelled visit from Tin Can Bay, most players will struggle to play 10 games. There are still 21 players in contention, and some of them will have to play in all 3 remaining games to qualify. Check out the leaderboard on the Vets noticeboard.

Prizes for the top ten in the Jim Penman Host Day Trophy will win:
1st $100 and a shirt
2nd $80
3rd $75
4th $70
5th $65
6th $60
7th $55
8th $50
9th $45
10th $40

Our remaining games for 2023 are:

16th October - HOME GAME visit by Maroochy River and Caloundra.
23rd October – HOME GAME visit by Noosa.
8th November – AWAY GAME at Noosa.

Other Host Day News is that from next year our Host Days will likely be run as “MEDLEY EVENTS”. This is due to a change in the SCDVGA Constitution that will take place at the 2023 Annual General Meeting in November. It will read that all District and Host games conducted under the auspices of the SCDVGA will be open to both male and female members.

This has been coming for some years now. It started with a push by AUSTRALIAN VETERANS GOLF, then the QVGA, and now the SCDVGA have found it necessary to fall in line and also change.

It also looks likely that the playing age of female veteran golfers will rise from 50 to 55 keeping in line with the age of male members. This has come from the QVGA and is likely to take effect from 1st Jan 2024. It seems that female members who joined before 31st Dec 2023 will keep their playing rights until they reach the age of 55.

These changes will require us to change our Cooroy Veterans Golf Club constitution, as we are required to abide by the Constitution and Rules of the Sunshine Coast District Veterans Golfers Association.

At the moment our constitution has our females as Restricted Members. This membership is open to female members who have attained the age of 50 years. It also states that our restricted members are not eligible to participate in golf competitions played at Cooroy Golf Club under the auspices of Cooroy Veteran’s Golf Club.

These changes will have no effect on our Vets Wednesday Competitions.

OTHER DISTRICT NEWS
Pelican Waters under their new ownership do not comply with the requirements of the Australian Veteran Golf constitution, they will not be invited to carry on as members of the SCDVGA.

Peregian Springs Veterans Golf Club has not been advised of their status under the new ownership. It is expected that the Vets Club will continue, but it is not clear under what format.

There is bound to be more news after the 2023 SCDVGA Annual General Meeting on November 2nd.
