NEXT WEDNESDAY - 11th OCTOBER 2023

Next week's competition is sponsored by the Red October Team so expect a floating target in the dam on the 10th hole.

The competition will be a Stableford with something different.

When you pay your competition fee you will be given a CHOICE of playing off one of 4 different coloured Tees:
  • If you play off the BLUE Tees, the SLOPE RATING is 118.
  • If you play off the WHITE Tees, the SLOPE RATING is 113.
  • If you play off the RED Tees, the SLOPE RATING is 108.
  • If you play off the YELLOW Tees, the SLOPE RATING is 107.
Once you have chosen your tee colour you must play from this marker all day. The CHOICE is yours.

An example of how this may affect your daily handicap. A player with a GA HANDICAP of 24.4:
  • Decides to play off the BLUE will play off a 22 daily handicap.
  • Decides to play off the WHITE will play off a 20 daily handicap.
  • Decides to play off the RED will play off an 18 handicap.
  • Decides to play off the YELLOW will play off a 17 handicap.
NOTE: You are playing in the same competition for the same prizes no matter what tee you decide to play off.

MEMBERS

When returning home from a recent overseas trip Ken McKay discovered he had an illness and is now undergoing treatment. We wish him the best.

Ken served on our Vets Committee, has his name on most of our Vets Trophies and was known as “Ace McKay” after scoring two holes in 1 in 2015.

RULES CORRECTION FROM LAST WEEK

Option 4 was removed in 2019 and was incorrectly included in last week's
rules section. Two members picked this up, which shows that at least
someone is reading the newsletters.

Lateral Water Hazard (Red)
  1. Play your ball from the previous spot.
  2. Drop the ball behind the hazard, in a straight line provided the spot at
which their ball last crossed the hazard remains directly between the
    dropping point and the hole.
  3. Drop the ball two club lengths from the ball’s entry point to the
    hazard, not nearer the hole.
  4. Drop the ball two club lengths from the opposite side of the hazard
and no closer to the hole.

MORE RULES

WHEN IS MY BALL IN THE PENALTY AREA
A ball is considered in the penalty area when it lies within the penalty area, or when any part of it touches the penalty area (remember, stakes and lines are themselves part of the penalty area).

WHEN IS MY BALL OUT OF BOUNDS
A ball is in bounds when any part of the ball:
  • Lies on or touches the ground or anything else (such as any natural or
artificial object) inside the boundary edge, or
  • Is above the boundary edge or any other part of the course.
Where out of bounds is defined by white stakes or a fence, the out of bounds line is the nearest inside point at ground level of the stakes or fence posts.

When a line on the ground is used, the line itself is out of bounds. However, a ball is deemed in bounds still even if only a small part of it lies on the course side of the boundary line.

If white stakes are used at intervals, the out-of-bounds line is the direct line from one stake to the next.

WHEN IS MY BALL ON THE GREEN
A ball is on the putting green when any part of it either touches the green, or 'lies on or in anything (such as a loose impediment or an obstruction) and is inside the edge of the putting green'
