Hi reader,
2017 Winner Lance Horn
Thanks to Grant and John Kelly we now have a magnificent 'Old Course Challenge' perpetual trophy which the winner gets to take home for 12 months.

Unfortunately, 2017 winner, Lance Horn, only gets to take it home for a week but long enough to show his wife that he is actually quite a good golfer.

The 'Old Course Challenge' recognises Cooroy Vets foundation members, Lionel Willett and Ed Otto.
Golf is not a game of great shots. It's a game of the most misses. Players who win make the smallest number of mistakes.

MAROOCHY RIVER - RESULTS

Our best performer, Jason Egan, placed 3rd in B grade with 38 points on a c/b from Dave Lyons. David Attrill also had 38 points but didn't place.

NTPs went to Andrew Aves and Phil Botting.

Balls in the rundown (to 34) went to: David Attrill, Greg Michael, Rex Williams, Lance Horn, Brad Lavender, Don Clelland and Terry Lyons.

Terry Lyons and Lance Horn also won raffle prizes.

WEDNESDAY

Another magnificent day for golf, an 18 hole Stableford and R1 of the 'Old Course Challenge'.

Thanks to our Stableford competition sponsors, Andrew Dick, Mike Smith and John Dangar.

Highlights of Stableford competition:
45 by Joe Daniels (C Grade), 44 by Tony Hayes (A Grade) and 43 by Bruce Wilshire (B Grade).

Nine visitors joined us again. Quite a few are regulars at this time of the year so they must enjoy the weather, challenging course and friendly atmosphere.

Stableford Rundown to 36.

R1 players well positioned for R2 of the Old Course Challenge next Wednesday (8:00am shotgun start) are:

Tony Hayes 22, Joe Daniels 21, Paul O’Hare 21, John O’Donoghue 21, Rex Williams 20, Graham Laing 20, Ray Glover 20, Greg Michael 20, Steve Howes 20, Kim Bannikoff 20, Bruce McLean 20

Bruce Wilshire had a great overall 43 points but only 17 of those came from the “Old Course”. Bruce McLean scored 31 points overall with 20 of these coming from the “Old Course”.

2018 SPotY LEADERBOARD

2018 08 01 - SPOTY Leaderboard
Grant maintains his position on top ahead of Mike Kent in 2nd place, however Tony Foster has now taken 3rd spot away from Ozzie Osbourne.

Unfortunately Ozzie had an additional handicap on Wednesday; his golf clubs were stolen from the buggy shed (for the second time) forcing him to play with a borrowed set. If you saw or heard anything suspicious please report it to Club Manager, Wayne Patston.

MEMBER UPDATE

Kevin Olsen is taking some time off from golf to address a medical issue. We wish him well.

Rod Harper played his last game at Cooroy on Wednesday after opting for a move to Harvey Bay and lifestyle change. Rod promises he will come back and play with us whenever he can and looks forward to following what’s happening at Cooroy Vets through our newsletter. Rod recently provided valuable advice to Cooroy Golf Club on the important issue of workplace health and safety.

Michael Loe is still recovering from a broken ankle but has given up speculating when he might return to golf so don’t ask him! Michael helped out again on Wednesday with the score cards.

After a long and frustrating wait, Andy Stewart has completed successful back surgery. Andy is pain free, literally jumping out of his skin and anxious to start hitting a golf ball again, but not just yet.

Andrew Dick is now highly mobile after hip surgery and will be back taking a full swing at that little dimpled white thing very shortly. Andrew is currently accompanying Mike Smith around the course and providing expert golf tips but, from all accounts, it didn't help much on Wednesday!

John Hillis and Peter Fryer have moved back to Noosa.
