Hi reader,

WEDNESDAY

With heavy slow fairways from the overnight rain it was a tough day at the office. The best score of the day was 37 by Grathan Leatherbarrow with the run down going to 31. Thanks to 'The Critters' (!!!) aka Brian Clemow and Tony Foster for sponsorship.

Grathan Leatherbarrow won A Grade from Mike Kent 36 and Andy Stewart 34.

Tom Williams won B Grade with 35 on countback from Gary Dwyer 35 and Derek Wood 35.

Jim Gregg
scored 34 to edge out Greg Topping 34 from Steve Paice 32.

Matt Saunders holds on tenaciously to his spot at the top of the SPOTY leaderboard.

2022 VETS AGM

A reminder that next Wednesday is a shotgun start and the Vets 2022 AGM at the conclusion of competition.

The present Vets committee is re-standing for 2023 mainly because there have been no other nominations and the pay is so good.

The majority of the Committee have been doing this for about 10 years and feel that it is time to look for a change. We do not want to get to a situation where wholesale changes are necessary at the same time as this would be a daunting experience. So, we will be asking for some of you to put your hand up at the AGM to learn what is involved, with the view, that you step into some of the vacant positions next year.

VETS XMAS FUNCTION

2022 12 Spit Roast Pig
We hold our Vets annual presentation and Xmas lunch on Wednesday, 14th December 2022 sponsored by 'The Bush Boys' so mark your diary.
Competition details will be available closer to the event but it is safe to assume it will be a team event.

Xmas lunch will be a 'Roast Pig on the Spit' and 'Roast Chicken' with a variety of nice salads. Our caterer is the Spit Roast Company. The meal will be provided free with an added bonus that Wayne has been able to secure a keg from 'Coopers' so there will be a free beer voucher for attendees.

HOST DAY PROGRAM

The nomination sheets for the visit to Noosa and Cooroy Vets hosting Headland are available in the clubhouse.

VOLUNTEERS & NOOSA HIGH SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT

You will have noticed activity at the 4th tee shelter shed area. The shed and tee area is undergoing a major upgrade as part of the Tee Identity Project. The objective of the Tee Identity Project is to create a more aesthetically pleasing and consistent theme to tees and surrounds across the golf course.

The club recently engaged with Noosa High School to provide work experience opportunities for students. The engagement is being managed and co-ordinated by Graham Laing and Warren Smith and has been very positive.

Students will visit on Tuesdays initially so they can work alongside experienced volunteers on stages of the P15 Tee Identity Project and other activities. This will provide opportunities to get involved in a variety of work.

We had our first student, Taj, start work experience on Tuesday, working with Grant Smallacombe and other volunteers laying pavers in the shelter shed at the 4th Tee. From all reports it was a great success. The upgrade work at the 4th tee will continue over the next few weeks.

Next week we have a female student studying small engine mechanics as well as horticulture coming over so there may be opportunities to involve her in machinery maintenance activities with Warren and Tony Foster.

Tony says he is enjoying being back on the tools and has even moved his own familiar maintenance tools into the shed.

Students will be involved with volunteers in the major green’s renovation project on 31st October and 1st November.

One of the key objectives for the course for 2022-2023 is lowering the cost of course maintenance. Supporting strategies include:

Make greater use of trained volunteers for a wider range of activities. The aim is not to replace staff but to free up staff so we achieve more.

Provide regular training opportunities for staff and volunteers ……………...

Warren has commenced training and certifying volunteers in operating course equipment. The aim is to create a pool of qualified volunteers that Warren can call on to assist with course maintenance work when necessary. In the current environment it is proving extremely difficult to recruit experienced full time staff.

Volunteers will be operating course equipment during the major green’s renovation project later this month.

If you are interested in volunteering have a word with Warren. You will find it very rewarding with the outcome of the efforts of staff, volunteers and students highly visible and adding to the enjoyment of playing the course.
