Week ending 10th September 2022

Hi reader,

WEDNESDAY

The Vets Championship certainly brings out the best in players with the contenders all producing great scores. Congratulations to our champions.

Net Champion: Mark Kelly 135 (69 + 66)
A Grade Champion: Mark Kelly 147 (75 + 72)
B Grade Champion: Dave Lyons 172 (86 + 86)
C Grade Champion: Paul O'Hare 191 (100 + 91)

Mark Kelly had an outstanding day also winning the A Grade Monthly Medal from Brett LeMoy 67 and Keith Harkins 67 and, Mark is playing in the Vets Single Matchplay final.

Doug Pearce had a deserved win in B Grade (a reward for all that volunteer work) with 67 from Bruce Otto 68 and Robert Rohweder 69.

Chris Gannon produced one of his best games to take C Grade with 68 from Paul O'Hare 68 and Hans Herrle 74.

Best Gross:

(1) Mark Kelly 72
(2) Brett LeMoy79
(3) Keith Harkins 79

The alternative to the usual wine for the Lucky Draw has been well received. We return to wine next week. Wednesday's winners were Bruce Dooley, Hans Herrle and Trevor Kinneally.

Click the button below for Pace of Play statistics for Wednesday. As it was a stroke round, about half of the field completed their rounds in a reasonable time”. If one or two groups takes an extra 5 or so minutes too long to complete their round, this builds up, and that makes it impossible for the last groups to complete their rounds in a reasonable time.

Our main aim is for the whole field can enjoy their day, and there are plenty of ways to play quicker without feeling that you are racing around the course. A good idea is to be aware of the impact your group is having on the other groups in front and behind you. If you fall too far behind, consider letting other groups play through.

MEMBERSHIP

Welcome aboard to three new members:

Robert had a good start with the Vets finishing 3rd in B Grade with 69.

VOLUNTEERS

2022 09 07 18th Bridge Montage
A great effort again by our volunteers and Warren Smith saw the concrete cart path extensions at the new 6th and 18th bridges laid on Tuesday ahead of schedule.

The new bridge on the 6th will remain closed until we fit the safety rail and non-slip paint to the metal section of the deck. Weather permitting, this should be completed next week.

Unfortunately, some incredibly thoughtless player (to put it politely) dragged a pull buggy along the newly laid concrete path on the 18th leaving wheel marks and shoe prints. It appears deliberate, or incredibly stupid, as you had to walk around ropes to access the path! Fortunately, the marks can be removed. If you recognise the shoe print let us know.

Please DO NOT USE the new bridges or cart path extensions until they are formally opened as there is safety work remaining to complete the projects.

HOST DAY PROGRAM

We hosted Nambour on 5th September 2022 with fifty three players teeing off in a shot gun start. With a small field we left eight holes free for Wayne to slot in social players.

The weather was fantastic and the course in fantastic condition thanks to what Warren and his staff are doing. Our visitors commented on how good our greens are.

The best score of the day was 39 points from new Cooroy member Pat Allen who took out Div 2 from Chris Green (Nambour 35) and Andrew Aves 33.
Scores in Div 1 were very low. Dave Lyons with 34 won on a countback from John Bryant (Nambour) with Keith Harkins (32) winning on a countback from four others.

Cooroy took out four of the six NTP’s – congratulations to Keith Harkins, Paul O’Hare, David Attrill and Gary Menyweather. The run down was a long one going to 30. Details are on the Vets noticeboard.

What's Coming Up
We go to Gympie on September 20th and host Peregian Springs on the 26th September 2022. The nomination sheet for Gympie will go in mid next week. If you nominate going round in a cart on the sheet, a cart will be assigned to you. No need to contact the club.

Finally practicing on a green before playing on that green (chipping to or putting on) is not permitted.
