Week ending 6th August 2022

Hi reader,

WEDNESDAY

What a great day for golf and some pretty impressive scores in each Grade for our August Monthly Medal sponsored by 'The Bush Boys'.

Kerry Davies shot 69 to win A Grade and backed it up with a NTP on the 3rd. Keith Harkins took runner-up with 71 and backed that up with two NTP's - 4th and 10th. Greg Michael took 3rd place with 71.

Second best score of the day went to Ross Maloney with 68 to win B Grade from Peter Palmer 71 and Neville Kunst 71. Neville picked up the NTP on the 12th.

The best score of the day went to Vice Captain, Jimmy Henderson with 67 to win C Grade from Steve Paice 70 and Paul O'Hare 72. There was a suggestion that Jim played his best round in quite a while because he didn't have his usual playing partner, our esteemed Captain, directing him around the course.

The Lucky Draw prizes were a little different to the usual bottles of wine this week. Grant put together 4 prize packs from donated golf accessories. Jimmy picked up a Lucky Draw prize also.

HOST DAY PROGRAM

We visit Caloundra on Friday, 12th August. Nomination sheet has been sent. We have 26 players, requiring seven carts, with 12 walking. Carts will be arranged by Caloundra Golf Club.

We visit Maroochy River on Monday, 22nd August. When the Maroochy captain made contact with us, he suggested we only get 20 spots. This was not acceptable so we have asked for 30 spots and that is the case. If we don’t fill those thirty it will be hard to justify it again next year.

Maroochy has the best greens on the Sunshine Coast, second is Cooroy. Unlike most other courses in Australia that have Tiff 328 on greens, they have Tiff Eagle which is commonly used on the US PGA circuit. The greens at Maroochy are true and quick- a good challenge. They are the only course on the Coast that has Tiff Eagle. Noosa were considering going that way recently. Nomination closes 13th August.

District Championship Event at Peregian Golf Club on Monday, 22nd August. Unfortunately two events same day. Can’t be helped. We are trying to send 6 players to Peregian. The day is heavily sponsored ($5000), so those going buy plenty of raffle tickets. Get a hole in one on the 12th hole and win a new car.
It is a great day. If tempted contact Dave Lyons 0419722104.

FUNDING INITIATIVE

From time to time Cooroy Veterans’ Golf Club funds initiatives with Cooroy Golf Club aimed at improving the golf course or facilities or providing equipment for the benefit of all Cooroy Golf Club members.

We are pleased to advise that The Vets have donated $15,000 to assist with the acquisition of a near new Toro Greens Mower.
