2022 COOROY MEN'S OPEN

We are moving closer to the field cap of 116 so if you want to play don't delay nominating.

Despite recent weather events, the work being put in by greens staff and volunteers will ensure a course in great shape.

The Men’s Open Event Committee is still looking for additional volunteers to assist with preparations and on the day of the Open. If you are interested speak to Matt Saunders. When he retired from the police force Matt vowed not to cut his hair. This will give you a clue to recognising Matt if you don’t know him.

2022 COOROY WOMEN'S OPEN

Unfortunately, due to the impact of recent weather events on course conditions we have had to postpone our Women's Open Day. It will now be held on Friday, 22nd July.

We are keeping our nomination list as is. If you are nominated but are unable to play on the new date please let Wendy O'Hare, Women's Captain, know at cooroyladiesgolf@gmail.com

FLOOD RESTORATION UPDATE

So far we have spent ~$33,000 on restoration costs from the recent flood and weather events. The final cost is likely to be in excess of $50,000. This cost doesn't include the many hours put in by staff and volunteers.

We purchased 2 x 40ft container bases for $22,935 for use as new bridge decks to replace flood damaged bridges. The bases will arrive on site shortly. Design for the new bridges is complete and work on the 6th bridge will get under way as soon as course conditions allow heavy equipment onto the course. Work on the new concrete bridge over the water culvert running across the 18th fairway will also get under way shortly.

Grants, donations and an ongoing flood raffle help offset flood restoration costs. The support and contributions from members, volunteers and staff during this difficult period has been outstanding - thank you.
  • Queensland Disaster Recovery Program Grant: $4,910
  • Gary & Julie Webster Bridge Restoration Donation: $5,500
  • Sunday Social Club Flood Restoration Donation: $500
  • Flood Raffle - Members: $4,906
  • Queensland Government Flood Grant: $15,000
Whilst damage to the course from these events has been severe, the impact of revenue lost from closure of both the course and clubhouse for extended periods has been devastating. Lost revenue is likely between $150,000 and $200,000.

We are facing rising costs across all areas. Increased fuel, fertiliser, materials and energy costs are starting to flow through to expenses. Wages are expected to rise, all of which necessitate a review of prices.

During April, when we were able to open, we experienced our best patronage and trading for a long time so we remain optimistic, particularly with the weather ahead looking much better. The course is recovering well and, on a positive note, the recent wet bodes well for getting us through winter with good grass coverage.

The Men's and Women's Open events present excellent opportunities to showcase the course.

MEMBERSHIP FEES 2022 to 2023

Membership Fee Schedule 2022 to 2023
It is that time of year again. This year, for the first time, we distributed membership renewal invoices by email so make sure you check your email inbox.

Rapidly rising costs and the impact of weather events this year make it necessary to increase membership fees. However, we still offer the most affordable membership on the Sunshine Coast. If you have any concerns about renewing your membership we encourage you to speak to Wayne or any of our management committee before making a decision.

We understand rising costs are being widely felt so, flexibility to align with personal circumstances is important. If you currently pay annually but would prefer to spread membership renewal cost across the year we can offer the following payment options. The conditions attached to each payment method are indicated below - certain charges must be paid in full upfront.
  • Two Instalments
Members electing to pay by this option must pay the first instalment each year plus a $20 Administration Fee plus full Affiliation Fee plus any Supplementary Fees. We have reduced the Administration Fee for this option to $20 from $40 as we are moving to electronic processing reducing manual effort involved.
  • Monthly Direct Debit Instalment Plan
Members electing to pay by this option must pay a direct debit service usage fee
plus full Affiliation Fee plus any Supplementary Fees upfront in the first instalment each year.
If individual circumstances make it hard to justify the cost of full membership because you don't play enough golf, you might consider our Pay-as-you-Play membership category. Pay-as-you-Play provides the same benefits as an ordinary member with the following exceptions.
  • Cost to play competition golf at Cooroy: $15 in addition to competition fee. This is a reduction from the current $20.
  • Cost to play 9 or 18 holes of social golf at Cooroy - $15.00, a reduction from current $20. A full member pays $5.00 for a social round.
  • Not eligible to vote at general meetings or serve on any committee or sub committee.
  • Not eligible to win honour board events.
Pay-as-you-Play members are eligible to transition to Ordinary Membership on payment of the appropriate fee.

Affiliation Fees have increased following a voluntary pause by Golf Australia and other associations during the height of COVID. We pay the full fee to the associations irrespective of whether a player is a member for one day or 365 days. The Club pays Affiliation Fees in advance and collects in arrears via membership fees.

SUNDAY SOCIAL CLUB

If you play golf on Sunday morning there is a good chance you have encountered the happy golfers from the Sunday Social Club.

The Sunday Social Club was founded in the early eighties by three members of Cooroy Golf Club who were also affiliated with other sporting bodies within the local community. Members of these sporting bodies were looking to play a casual round of golf for relaxation, exercise, company and, a bit of fun. The social club started off with 20 players and, within two years that soon grew into 80 odd. Some of these players enjoyed the game and joined Cooroy Golf Club.

Today, the social club has 40 odd members with handicaps fro 2 to 44 with 45 being the maximum handicap. Membership is $20 annually. Games feature gift voucher prizes donated by sponsors. The social club also visit other clubs three or four times a year and regularly run raffles.

The social club adheres to the normal rules of golf only the handicapping changes.

1 If you win you lose 5 shots and the run down:
2 2nd loses 4 shots
3 3rd loses 3 shots
4 4th loses 2 shots
5 5th loses 1 shot
6 Every other player gains 1 shot

This gives everyone a chance at winning and the members are happy and enjoying their golf. The social club has three active women players and more would be great.

The club plays every Sunday morning starting at 6:00 am. Anyone is welcome to join. If you are looking to ease into club golf the Sunday Social Club may just be the option for you.

The Sunday Social Club is a strong supporter of Cooroy Golf Club and generously donated $500 to assist our flood recovery efforts - thank you.

We are working on a loyalty rewards program utilising the features of our new SwiftPOS system to reward the support of the Sunday Social Club. Social clubs represent one of our target markets so the exercise is also looking to develop a differentiated offering for other social clubs.

MEN'S PENNANTS

Unfortunately Jeff McDonald has had to withdraw as Captain of the Masters Pennants team for personal reasons.

Team members confirmed at this stage are Kevin Stephens, Mark Kelly, Brett Robinson and Brian Clemow. Jeff may play.

We need 7 players and 2 reserves and a Masters Pennants Captain to organise and lead the team. If you are interested please contact Men's Captain, Matt Saunders as soon as possible.
