VALE ED OTTO

It is with sadness that we advise the passing of Ed Otto (picture) age 93 years. Ed is remembered as a founding member of Cooroy Vets and served as the inaugural Vets President in the early eighties.

Ed also served a period as Cooroy Golf Club President and in 1989, under Ed's leadership, the club embarked on its biggest clubhouse renovation program in more than 50 years costing $80,000, a lot of money in those days.

A true gentleman, Ed spent a major part of his life as a successful and respected dairy farmer in the Mary Valley. Our condolences to the Otto family and friends.

The funeral will be held at Drysdale's Tewantin on Friday, 12th February 2021 at 2:00pm. There will be a wake at the Federal Memorial Hall and Community Centre Inc. from 3:30 pm onward - all welcome.

MEMBERSHIP

Ossie Osborne will be ‘off course’ for a while as he undergoes some major heart re-plumbing but assures us he will be back playing better golf.

Welcome aboard to new member, David Sweet.

A REMINDER - we have a few members with 2021 membership renewal outstanding.

WEDNESDAY

Playing a Stableford off the red tees required a re-calibration of club selection and made a couple of par 5's long par 4's but, with the course in great shape, and cooler conditions there were some great scores. Thanks to Ossie Osborne for sponsoring the day.

A couple of eagles soared over the 14th hole on Wednesday with Geoff Linde and Scott Bennett each shooting ‘big birdies’ - quite a unique achievement.

Matt Saunders had a great round shooting 41 to take C Grade from Nick Kostalas and Hans Herrle.

Mark Woolway also fired a great 41 to take B Grade on a count back from Jim Gregg with third place going to John Butler.

A Grade went to Peter Buchbach, also with 41, from Greg Michael and Tony Hayes 38.

The 4th NTP again proved popular with six names on the card. The prize went to Hans Herrle.

HOST DAYS

We hosted PELICAN WATERS on Monday, 8th February with a field of 74 players (41 from PW). Prizes were awarded to fourth place in each grade. Four PW players took out 3rd and 4th prizes in A Grade and B Grade.

Cooroy Winners were: A Grade – Andy Stewart 37 points in a count back from Greg Michael. B Grade – magnificent scores from Andre Smit 43 from Brian (forever the Bridesmaid) Clemow 42 and it was all Cooroy in C Grade – Rod Roemermann with 38, and David Attrill, James Henderson and Rod Ballantyne all with 35 separated by count back.

The Run Down went to 32 with 16 balls, six going to Cooroy players – Mike Kent, Paul Williams, Joe Daniels, Greg Flanagan, Shane Le Gale and Terry McCulloch.

One of the visitors shot a hole in one on the 15th. Pelican Waters visitor, John Small, playing off 1 handicap, impressed fellow players with his length off the tee, in particular the 3rd when his drive finished behind the green, and on 17, when his drive finished near the right side bunker.

A big thank you from the Committee to Don Clelland and Joe Daniels et al, for their help in selling raffle tickets over the last two Mondays.

YOU HAVE GOTTA LOVE THE IRISH

Murphy showed up at Mass one Sunday and the priest almost fell down when he saw him. He'd never been to church in his life:

After Mass, the priest caught up with him and said, "Murphy, I am so glad ya decided to come to Mass. What made ya come?"

Murphy said. "I got to be honest with you Father. A while back, I misplaced me hat and I really, really love that hat. I know that McGlynn had a hat just like mine and I knew he came to church every Sunday. I also knew that he had to take off his hat during Mass and figured he would leave it in the back of church. So, I was going to leave after Communion and steal McGlynn's hat."

The priest said. "Well, Murphy, I notice that ya didn't steal McGlynn's hat. What changed your mind?"

Murphy replied. "Well, after I heard your sermon on the 10 Commandments, I decided that I didn't need to steal McGlynn's hat after all."

With a tear in his eye the priest gave Murphy a big smile and said. "After I talked about 'Thou Shalt Not Steal' ya decided you would rather do without your hat than burn in Hell?"

Murphy slowly shook his head. "No, Father, after ya talked about 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery' I remembered where I left me hat."
