Hi reader,

MEMBERSHIP

Just when Peter O'Connor was ready to get back into golf he slipped and broke a leg. Peter is rehabilitating in Eden Hospital so he is not far from the golf action. We wish Peter a speedy recovery.

If you know of any of our members or ex members who are not travelling too well let Rod know so we can make mention in our newsletter. A few words from friends can be better than a visit to the doctor.

Congratulations to Lance Horn on reaching the milestone of 80 years young.

WEDNESDAY

Thanks to "The Sultans of Swing", aka Derek Clayton and Ron Blount, prize donors for Wednesdays Single Stableford. Between them they donated enough golf balls to keep us going for a while.

Mike Smith 33 and Steve Howes 32 returned to the clubhouse thinking they wouldn't even make the run down. But, in a low scoring day, they finished runner up and third place in C Grade. Alex Kologaras took the main prize with 36.

Wayne Carty returned the best card of the day, 38, to take B Grade from Andrew Dick 36 and Scott Bennett 35.

A three way countback saw Greg Michael, 37 take A Grade from Gary Menyweather and Terry Magill.

On Wednesday Con Russell collected his embroidered shirt for winning the title of Vets 2020 Club Handicap Champion. Not long after Con could be seen in the clubhouse proudly wearing his prize and quietly letting everyone know about his achievements, which also included Vets C Grade Champion.

HOST DAYS

Our first host day for 2021 at Pelican Waters last Monday didn't get off to the best start. Three of our 37 players did not turn up while all 60 of their players who nominated attended. This really annoyed their Captain as we all heard.

There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scene by both clubs, particular the Captain and Committee that are hosting. It is disappointing when this occurs or when people arrive just before the start of play, as groups have to be re-arranged minutes before tee off time.

Two of our three players contacted the Pelican Waters Golf Club up to a week before hand advising they would not be playing. The problem with doing that is the message may not be passed onto their vets committee, and this happened in both cases. If the shoe was on the other foot and our Club was contacted they would be told that they must notify withdrawal through their Captain.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you nominate for a host day, home or away, but are unable to play and the time sheet has been taken for processing, please notify:
  • Dave Lyons, Host Captain, on 0419722104 by voice or text message (preferred) or
  • Jim Henderson, Vice Captain on 0420928331.
Dave or Jim will then ensure the host club Captain is made aware of the withdrawal.

We suggest you record the above contact details in your phone for future reference. A list of registered members of Cooroy Vets and their contact details is pinned to the vets notice board in the clubhouse.

Turning now to the more enjoyable action on the day.

Our best score of the day came from Peter Palmer who came third in B grade with 39 points. Michael Kent just missed out on a prize in B grade with 37 points.

Andrew Carson recorded our second best score of 38 points to take third place in C grade. It was a pretty hot field in A Grade, but Gary Menyweather came fifth with 37 points and Brian Clemow came sixth with 36 points and received a voucher to spend.

There were no NTP’s and surprisingly, no run down as they usually do.

The time-sheets for hosting Gympie on Monday, 1st February and hosting Pelican Waters on Monday 8th February are available in the clubhouse. NOTE: Please nominate your preferred time (early, mid, late as indicated) as it will be a timed start, but please don’t all nominate early as that can’t be accommodated.

There has been a change to the Host Day program for February. We will now host Mt Coolum on Monday, 15th February, as their greens are being renovated on that day, and visit Mt Coolum on Monday, 17th May.
